MG MGF Technical - How is this ??

Okay

In Feb I got the old Techspeed setup very pleased with it. Anyway last week thought it was about time to change the rear tyres. Found a set of Yoko's for a reasonable price and had them fitted.

Prior to putting them on I had NCT3'S on all round and the steering wheel sat very slightly of to the left and I mean slightly.

After fitting the yoko's at the back the blasted steering wheel sits way of to the right and the handling is not much better than before I went to Techspeed.

What sort of car is this. I mean I can appreciate the need for tracking after new tyres but for the whole car to thrown so badly out over two tyres come on.

And yes I know we are all suppose to stay to the same type of tyre all round. Thought I would be a Devil and chance my arm.

Rear tie bar bushes if they are standard will cause the tracking to vary putting the steering out, the different aspect of new tyres will aggrevate the problem. Steering wheel misalignment is usually caused by the rear alignment being out. cure is rear tiebar bushes/compliance washers and 4 wheel alignment .HTH.

Are Yokos directional tyres? Have they fitted them both correctly? One on the wrong way may perhaps cause this problem.

What size have you put on the front? I don't think they do A520's in 185 or 195 x 15.

I ran with 205's all round with A520's, and it was OK, but did get a bit "interesting" when they were worn out... Rather prone to oversteer!

I never found out if it was front or rear that caused it, but A520's were a bit prone to "tramlining" on heavily used roads - experiment with the pressures to minimise it...

Or do you mean you have you still got NCT3's on the front?

Could well be that the "stickier" rear tyres are causing the tie bar geometry to distort as Mike says... Could be worth (cheaply) fitting some compliance washers to the tie bar (£10 from Brown & Gammons and an hour or so to fit them, probably less). That will restrict the back end from steering the front...

Thanks lads. Guess Iam going to have to get the tracking / alignment done again. Wish Techspeed were closer.
