MG MGF Technical - HP 1.8i = 118 or 120 BHP?
Is the 1.8i MGF a 118bhp or 120bhp. Rover claim 120bhp but Lotus state for there Elise 118BHP. I have also heard different stories for the 1.8i F. Some say it is 118 others say it is 120. What is the truth. I realise that cars can vary but I am talking in general. |

2 bhp? are you serious? You will get more of a variance in bhp from ambient temperature variations or filling up with super unleaded. If you are concearned about bhp, by a sports air filter. K+N is worth 15+ bhp... SF |

Both figures are correct, it's just that 120 refers to PS and 118 refers to BHP. You will see this with many other quoted power outputs and this is often used as a marketting tool. For example the Rover Tomcat Turbo engine with 197bhp or the better sounding 200ps. Rog |

118 bhp is the correct figure as quoted by the manufacturer. You may find that if you put your MGF on a rolling road that you can see a little more- depending on ambient atmospheric conditions, tyres, transmission losses etc etc. According to rolling road data, my Jan '96 1.8MPi puts out 122 bhp [corrected] @ flywheel without the filter/ exhaust fitted. Other cars may be a little more, or a little less. Rob |
