MG MGF Technical - hydragas pump connection valve

Hi all,

I would like to aks whether somebody else than Carl and me has already build his/her own hydragas pump.

I know Tim S. ? has got the cheap 'only pump' version from a UK manufacturer. (ALBA)
Anyway, if of interest, I found a supplier in the north of the island who sells hydragas connection valve(s) as spare part.

(Picture of the part I'm talking about)

It's boring to splash around the fluid at each pumping job, cause lack uf a professional connector.

I'll go to order one from the UK (Err... expensive) if I can't find another solution.
Got a quote including a piece of pressure hose and p+p of 76 EURO.

Is this OK, or please has anybody a cheaper source ?

Is any of you interested in a participoating in a bulk purchase ?

This will be to late for my current works. I go to lower HEF-MG96 on next weekend with new knuckles and install the bump stops. But it will help in later frequent use.

Dieter,

I have also bought a pump through B&G a couple of months ago after I got really pissed of with my dealer who pumped the car to 400mm. It is made by a UK company called "Liquid Levers Automotive" and their contact details are as follows:

Liquid Levers Ltd
32/34 Whitehill Road
Whitehill Industrial Estate,
Glenrothes
Fife KY6 2RW
Tel 44 1592 775010
Fax 44 1592 771300

It was expensive (GBP 295 + postage and local tax)but it looks well build and it can both pressurise and de-pressurise the system. I have not had a chance to use it yet so I can not promise on the quality of the connector but it looks good. Maybe they will be prepared to supply you with spare connectors? No harm in trying.

Well, I have been asking the question for a couple of years now, it has finally been answered.

How much for a real hydragas pump that I don't have to build myself? 300 quid sounds quite a reasonable price to me and is what I would have expected it to be.

Another thing to add to my shopping list if I ever have the money spare.

Tim,

mine was the second. Carl did the first. Already since 2 years :)
Don has made one also in last year.
Strong stuff for silly engineers in any way.

But you haven't got the evacuation function *g*

Tony,
Tim has got the one you need. Price should be verified from several sources.
Manufacture is ALBA in Scotland.

Cu later 'low'

Liquid Levers will sell you just the Schrader connector if you have all the other pump bits sorted out already. I got one from them when putting together the pump for the Metro racer.

If you open up one of their pumps it has a couple of non return valves, a Mini clutch slave cylinder, the gauge, reservoir and bleed valve.

Alan,
Thanks, I called them yesterday for a quotation.

Sorry to butt in but has anyone a diagram for building your own pump

Includes all stuff I know from Carl, Sweden some own enhencements and Tonys translation help.
We used a cheap hydraulic jack instead of the several seperate non return valves and pressure cylinder. Clutch slave cylinder or a brake cylinder is a good idea, but I had no chance to get cheap non return valves and all the required connectors. All drawn parts were availiable from common sources, without a good connector to the cars system.

www.minispares.com and do a search under 'products' and then 'hydrolastic pump' to find an alternative at 258:50Ukp. The cheaper end of the market!

When buying one do check whether there is a vacuum facility or whether it just allows depressurisation and presurisation of the suspension. Vacuum facility is used for evacuating air that may enter the system if the pump is disconnected or suspension dissassembled and this is a very useful function.
