MG MGF Technical - hydragas valve leak
Hi The fill valve on my MGF was replaced a year or so ago and it has leaked ever since. To start with it was primarily from the valve core, but successive tightening has reduced that, but I can now see it also leaks from where the valve body screws into the mounting block on the line. I am planning to get it out and wrap the thread in a healthy amount of PTFE / plumber's tape. Does anyone see any problem with this, or have a better suggestion? cheers Darren |

Hi Darren, may be right. I've heard of several failed valves in the last years. You could try to replacing the metal valve or change the valve with pipe. (See EPC for the part number) There's a guy at ebay UK who sells the "Schrader" hydragas valves for about 8 quid. They are the same as for the old Mini. HTH Dieter |

ooops, the guy is asking for 40 quid.. item 130277806669 |

Thanks Dieter £40 for two valves!!! The new valve I had last year was something like £5 from an official Rover parts dealer - well as official as they can be with no Rover anymore. Mins is brass rather than stainless, but is otherwise identical. Nonetheless, thanks for the pointer to the ebay guy as I see he supplies them with PTFE tape (which I guess goes towards the £40), so, assuming he knows what he's doing, I should be ok using PTFE for mine. regards darren |

Cheers ! And keep in mind the option with pipe-work replacement http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/324.htm #2 p/n RNP100180 or RNP100190 Should be available at many breakers in the UK. |

Find an early metro (Austin or MG one with the A series engine) in a breakers yard. The link pipe between the rear hydragas units has a screw-in valve in a T piece bolted to the rear subframe. The front units on the very early square headlight models have screw-in valves too. Al |

The crader valve housing can be removed and resealed when fitting back with PTFE tape no problem. Now I may be wrong but I always thought the shrader valves were simply tyre valves! so ought to be a couple of pence from a tyre depot |
