MG MGF Technical - Immobiliser woes?
Sorry to be insistent mates. I need to learn if it is possible that the alarm/immobiliser completely cut the ECU and the ignition. I wonder if any of you could perhaps illustrate me about that possibility and perhaps send me a sketch of the connections between the immobilizer and the ECU. Is it possible to measure if the ECU is receiving a signal from the immobiliser after turning the key? My car would not start and everything seems to be right. Immobiliser perhaps? David |

Hi David, I'm afraid, this is a sensitive point of discussion at a public BBS due to security against burglars. The *how to* ... ? I daubt you will get brief instructions, even if anyone knows. ;) (I don't) Anyway, try http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb16.jpg Cheers Dieter |

Thanks Dieter. You are quite right about security matters, I understand. My problem is that after checking everything and replacing many, the engine still would not start. So I need to learn if the immobiliser may completely block ignition in a not reversible way. Or if that would not be the case if there is any way that may allow us to measure if the ECU is receiving a signal from the immobiliser. David |

David, checks - the dash light is connected to the imobalizer, so you can see it working. The fuel pump is not switched by the imobalizer, so it should prime when you first touch the key |

The handbook shows a way of disabling the immobiliser - you will need a 4-digit code. There should be no output from the coil if MEMS is immobilised - and no input to the coil ! Is this at the garage that was using a 'scope to investigate ? If so, what are they reporting ? Dead HT ? and are they also reporting dead input to the coil ? |

>The handbook shows a way of disabling the immobiliser - you will need a 4-digit code. This disables the 5AS passive imobilizer, but not the MEMS imobilizer function. The coil should have +ve feed perment, and the -ve side should be switched by the MEMS, I dont remember if the starter circuit is governed by the 5AS directly or thru the MEMS. |
