MG MGF Technical - IMS (instant mobility system)

TF options:

do you know why is unavailable now?
some mounth ago was available

(there isn't sweller compressor now)

do you know if compressor was dangerous for electric system or it was "killed" because it was too expansive?

hi
cnerone

compressor = electric pumper
cnerone

Cnerone,

Don't know why but perhaps someone else my help. I thought the instant mobility system was a pressurised aerosol can of foam so that you could inflate a punctured tyre and get yourself home.

Someone?

I know what IMS was, I don't know how is not available now
cnerone

EC specification *export* may be different to the UK spec.
Keep in mind. IMS with funny air pump got supplied at last at the first TF in DE.

What VIN (vehicle identification number/chassis number) do you reffer to ?
is the sequence number starting with 2d... or 3D... ?

Dieter, I want to know why IMS is not supllied now.
I ask it because I'm going to buy an electric pumper to fit in my mgtf to keep my 5^ wheel at home. I want to know if electric pumper can damage electric system or not. Can I damage my car using a electric pumper connected to ashtray?
cnerone

<<Can I damage my car using a electric pumper connected to ashtray? >>

I would think not. Not electrically anyway. At worst you could blow a fuse.

The IMS system comprises of a can of tyre sealant and a compressor to re-inflate the wheel.
Have heard of some MG's having IMS without pumps tho.
Compressors should not damage your wiring as they are only low voltage.

For my interest

Is the IMS compressor much different to any of the 12v tyre pumps that connect via the ciggie lighter?

I recently bought a pump from Wills favourite supplier for a few quid. It indicates current tyre pressure and allows me to preset the pressure I want a.d switches off when preset is reached.

I never considered the possibility that it might damage the car in any way unless I dropped it onto the bonnet in error.

To be on the safe side make sure that the cigar-lighter plug is fused and keep the fuse rating as low as possible for the item conected - then it will blow the 'local' fuse rather than the cars fuse.

good thought Ted, must check when I get home but I'm sure it is self fused.

Thanks

I've seen it only once down at Kempenrit.
Looks *bog standard*

By coincidence... ;)
Have the IMS Instruction from a 160 Trophy online... if anyone likes to download. (not linked to the website)

Opps, I'm afraid. That was the wrong file content.
I'll do a new link if of interest later this weekend.

Phuu, should be all right now. Apology !
Dieter K.

That's more like it Dieter.

I was worried you were falling below your normal very high standards :-)
