MG MGF Technical - K&N 57i Generation II Induction Kit
It's coming ... "Building on the outstanding success of the original 57i induction kits. K&N have developed the new generation of performance induction system. After extensive research and dyno development these kits develop even more power and torque. The sealed airbox (around the filter) is force fed with cold dense air. The one piece moulded ABS plastic induction pipe ensures the air entering the engine does not increase in temperature - giving maximum possible horsepower". Kits under development throughout 2001 ... ..... end of blurb ... This is what we've been waiting for folks !!! Email sales@knairfilters.com to find out when the MGF kit will be available. Gaz |

It has taken almost far too long for this to evolve. The high air temp facts have been plain to see from a number of sources for a long time. Now don't all rush out and expect there to be another great wadge of power to add to the 9 and 15 bhp increases seen in the original tests. There will be smaller gains in peak power, maybe another 2 or 3, but the big advantage should be seen in part throttle response and mid range torque. Rog |

Can't wait though. I can confirm that cold air is important as my induction pipes have been kindly reposition by the garage that replaced my clutch (i just haven't found where they have been repositioned too yet) and without the cold air i could really notice the difference. Obviosly still the great noise, but the car was definetly more slugish |

I'll try and drop Lesley a line to get the low down and piccies. I would imagine that this kit has been created in direct response to the ITG filter system- and I'd expect it to be very similar in concept and design to it. I just hope that it will be significantly cheaper! Rob |

Is this sealed box around the filter being force fed with cold dense air the same system as the "Tech speed" development that I saw at Silverstone last year, anyone know if Techspeed have this on the market yet...paul maybe? Stuart |

Is it safe to assume that there is going to be a large reduction in noise from the intake, if so, does this mean I'll be able to fit it without, she who must be obeyed, finding out. Oh what joy!! |

I've got some small pics for designs for other cars - unfortunately I'm in Madrid until Wednesday ... will try and scan in then. Gaz |

It is a fully enclosed system - not sure if it can be described as 'force fed' though. HTH Paul ps It would be very, very useful if K&N were able to supply just the air box to fit the existing K&N filter, thus allowing existing 57i owners a cheaper upgrade, wouldn't it Lesley? |

Have a look at this: http://www.bmcairfilters.com/english/pagaspd.htm The Carbon-Dynamic-Airbox is already available for the F! I use a BMC filter and I'm very happy with it. The quality seems to be even better than K&N but prices are a bit higher as well. Nikolaj |

I had a chat with Lesley yesterday (nice to talk to you again!) regarding this kit. It appears that it may not have been specifically developed for the MGF as yet, but she is trying to find out details and will keep us posted. I guess we wait and see. When we see the kit, it'll probably look alot like the BMC kit that Nikolaj has brought to our attention. Carbon fibre? Bit wasted on us isn't it- can't see our investment!!! :o/ Rob |
