MG MGF Technical - K & N Pipe fixings
I have been meaning to post this for ages but you know how it is. The weak point of the K & N kit is without doubt the positioning of the cool air hoses. I was never happy with the plastic tie method. I thought about Toms bracket but never got around to it. This is how I solved the problem. I bought a length of aluminium convoluted tubing, about 60 mm dia from a local factors and cut a couple of 6 inch lengths. these were then siliconed into the ends of the K & N tubes. The beauty of the aluminium tube is that it can be bent 90 degrees and it will not spring back. I then cut a couple of collars from the cap of a suitable diameter aerosol. the collars were then siliconed on to the ends of the aluminium tubes and the ali tubes bent to about 90 degrees. I drilled a hole in the collars and also the seamed ledge on the bodywork which is just in front of where the K & N tubes come out under the car. The tubes were the fixed using a couple of plastic mushroom type fixings. I also cut a further couple of lengths of ali tube and siliconed these to the engine compartment end of the induction tubes so that they can be bent to direct the cool air to the filter. I did this about 6 months ago and it works very well. The pipes have not moved and if they were clouted they would be easy to clip back into position. Hope this makes some sort of sense. Nice idea Tim. Out of curiousity which motorfactors did you buy the ducting from? Rob |

I'm looking to buy a K&N for my VVc, some time ago I came across a web site offering discounts to F owners when buying the filter kit. I think it was a K&N UK site but I cant find it again. Has anyone come across any good prices for these filters? |

Paul Try this for size www.knairfilters.com click on the MGF offer Pete |

Paul, Peter is right about the discount from Kinnor. If you are doing anything else to the car and are buying anything from Brown & Gammons, you would do better to buy the K&N there too. B&G were charging about £5 less than Kinnor for the K&N. The price of p&p if this is the only item makes the overall cost about the same. So if your getting anything else at the same time B&G is cheaper. I hope that makes some sort of sense? David |

Tim, any chance of any photos of the installation of the new tubes as I would be interested to see some as the cooling tubes on mine are costantly getting hammered and i need a solution to sort this darned problem out. Yours in hoping, Kieron. |

Kieron, Sorry, no pictures - no digital camera. The method works very well.It keeps the pipes in place and keeps them pointing the right way. Tim H10 VVC |
