MG MGF Technical - K & N Questions
I fitted a K&N 57i before Xmas (quite straight forward with the excellent K&N fitting guide taken from the MGF FAQ - thanks). I am curious to know why the air induction tubes have to be positioned at least 10cm (?) away from the filter? Also should the induction tube openings underneath the car face straight down or angled (more horizontally) to scoop in more air? I have to say that I've notice an improvement in throttle response and power. Not sure about fuel comsumption yet though. Cheers. |

Hi Dave I can answer some of the questions: >>I am curious to know why the air induction tubes have to be positioned at least 10cm (?) away from the filter?<< The reason for this is to avoid turbulent air in the immediate area of the filter. Turbulent air is fast air. Fast air is low pressure air. Low pressure is of a lower density... less dense air has less oxygen... well you get the idea. <g> >>Also should the induction tube openings underneath the car face straight down or angled (more horizontally) to scoop in more air?<< All the tests that we have done here on the BBS have been with the tubes set in parallel to both the underside and the long axis of the car. This position appears to work well. Therefore I can only recommend this. HTH Rob |
