MG MGF Technical - Lights

Hi all
Just something I needed to share with the MGF drivers out there...
I have just discovered the OSRAM +50% H1 halogen bulbs following a tip from Dieter (Danke Dieter). What a difference they make! Driving onto an unlit section of motorway at high speed used to be a real buttock clencher with the dicky standard MGF bulbs(the abyssal stretch of the M1 north of Nottingham comes to mind). They are pricey but really worth it. (And I don't work for OSRAM).
Maybe a daft question, but can you wire MGF spots into the main headlight circuit?

Cheers

re: MGF spots & main headlight circuit

I believe that the MGF has FOGs not SPOTs - something to do with position (under bumper level) and beam pattern.

If that is so, then NO cannot be wired into mainbeam. Can only be used when foggy, falling snow or heavy rain with/without dip beam. Must go off when main beam selected.

Jim, just noticed your in Switzerland? Ignore most of what I said about UK Construction & Use Regulations.

Dependant upon Swiss/Euro Construction & Use Regulations I suspect you can wire anything into anything if you wish.

Still sure the F has Fogs not Spots.

No harm in wiring in spots into the main beam circuit, although you'll have to use a suitable relay (although I am sure that this would come with any decent spot lamp kit). The question arises where to mount those lamps.

I've seen them mounted in the intake grilles - which can look very neat and subtle. A question of locating the right kind of style of lamp then...:o)

Thanks for the answers people, I am just poking around to try to increase the amount of road I can see in front of me on a dark night. I will look out for some decent looking spot lights and let you know how I get on.

Cheers

The MGF Fog Lights come with a Cockpit Switch and are on with side, dipped or main.
It is illegal to have them on in UK unless the visibility is less than 100 metres and in Switzerland, less than 50 metres. The UK police could not care less but from experience, the Swiss Polizei are more sensitive.
