MG MGF Technical - lowering - Camber - knuckles again
Hi All, Just wanted to touch this matter that has been addressed a 1000īs times before. Why. I changed to another (better) dealer. And gues what, @ my 20K service, he jacked up my knuckles lowered car. Bummer. It is now 360mm. Pressure must be well above 400psi (I remember Rob mentioning in similar case 500psi and more!!!) Any danger involved??? One more thing, my car has been lowered (approx 320-325 in winter, 330 in summer) since day 1 (1 year and 20K) and no rear tyer inner wear has been spotted. And And yes I drive sporty (and spicy) and no, my K & N bracket doesn't hit ground on speed bumps. I found in the archives Carl from Sweden mentioning: << Posted 17 December 1998 at 14:57:35 UK time Carl , Sweden It is NOT the small diffs. between A-arms ,ie. the manufacture tolerances on those parts that sets camber but following : Already at body manufacturer, Mayflower there is a "rotten apple" , a chassie jigg among several that is outside tolerances. Bodies from this one(s) are giving problem - those from more correct jiggs is OK. This gives the big diff. between cars from the same "batch". >> I think there is some truth in there. Cheers, David. Hi David Glad to hear the K&N brackets is okay and doing it job as designed even with the car lowered. I have yet to notice any problem with mine since having the car lowered. Tom |

Crumbs- yes that pressure is too much David. I'd get the garage to re-set the hydragas pressure to recommended settings. Andy Phillips has had this problem a couple of times now. Personally, I think it would be a good idea to have a sticker printed that states that the car has been lowered with knuckles, and that the hydrags pressure should be set to 400psi (which if I recall correctly is the workshop manual specified pressure). I will probably do this when I lower my car with knuckles. The best place to locate such a sticker is the under bonnet shroud that covers the hydragas pressure valves. Cheers Rob |

Hi all, Tom, Thatīs right, I thought (as derived from the archive and this very BBS), that my bracket would hit every speed bump encountered. But nope, not a single scratch. Rob, I sure told the dealer about the lowering and they wrote it down in my car file. Problem was my car couldnt drive propery onto the hydraulic bridge. And you know how mechanics are: " too low,... letīs pump it up". of course without checking on the pressure as they are really busy measuring the distance center wheel-arche. I donīt blameīm though, they were acting like a good house father, as we would state in Fleminsh. Darn the pound gained about 4% yesterday over the Euro (or Belgian franc). For this matter I should refer to another thread,...Dirk,... LOL. Cheers, David. B.T.W. :The dealer sure was pleased with the look of the Foxter rol windstop, thatīs for sure. |

>The best place to locate such a sticker is the under bonnet shroud that covers the hydragas pressure valves. I have already done this, on the suggestion of the dealer, without prompting (raises one eybrow), what are the chances of that happening? Funny how something as simple as that can impress you when you been treated poorly elsewhere..... Stuart |
