MG MGF Technical - 'machine gun door locks' and engine won't start

Hello,

wanted to use the MG today, but it wouldn't start. Also, before I got in, the door locks rattled like maniacs. When I press the buttons on the key fob, the doors do actually open and close, but it doesn't sound very good. I actually had this once before (few mounths ago), but it disappeared by itself.

So, I did manage to get in, but when I tried to start the car, it didn't do much more than composing another rattle (this time originating from behind the seats).

Anyone know what to do, and if there's a connection between these two problems that presented themselves at the same moment.

Here's what it sounds like:

Cheers,
Robbert.

Without insulting you are you absolutely sure this is nothing more than a flat battery or a loose battery connection instead of something more sinister. This is exactly the symtoms I have every year after I come back my holidays . Try the headlights for strength as this always gives a good clue to battery health.

Mitch, thanks for your reply. No insult taken, I'll have a look into the battery situation.

Robbert - is the earth lead from engine to rear bulkhead OK ?? - mine broke couple of weeks before Christmas, all I got was a "machine-gun" noise from behind me. The lead had broken through at the bottom, where it is bolted to the gearbox casing.

I had a smiliar thing a few years ago. The alarm would also go off occasionlly.

In the end it was the central locking mechanisum in the door. Once replaced everything was fine..

Well, just changed the battery yesterday (which is quite a bit of a job if you don't have the proper tools). All's fine now!!
