MG MGF Technical - MGF Key Fob Remote

Ive just purchased my MGF, and it was supplied with two key fob remotes, one of which, was not working despite the owner replacing the battery.

I delved the web for solutions, and tried to find out the options and possibilities.

I was at the point of deciding a new fob was needed, which would mean not only buying a new fob, but going to someone who had the correct gear to reprogam both fobs to work.

Today i found this site:
http://www.remotekey.co.uk/

and the information on possible causes of malfunction, meant i tried step 2, which was to take out the battery.. press the buttons ten times, replace the battery and go and unlock the car with the key, then press the dimple remote 4 times..

hey presto.. :) i now have two working fobs..

That simple bit of info.. saves me well over £50.00 so i make this post to recommend remotekey, as a service provider.

It also appears, that because my car has central locking, there is no EKA number, just a dash in the space provided for it in the car documentation.. the card gives the radio code and the key No. and the VIN... but no EKA.

Further, the documentation that shows one how to use the EKA, clearly states its not for cars with central locking,on the cover, and also says that if one tries to unlock the passenger door with a key, the alarm will still be armed..

I cant unlock the passenger door with a key :) there is no lock for a key. ie, i can only unlock the drivers door with a key, and the boot, the passenger door relies on the key fob enabled central locking.

So i dont think i need the EKA, but i will investigate that to find out.. what happens if the damn door lock mechanism fails for example.. one hopes the remote will work, and open the passenger door..

Hence this reply..

That's a useful hint to reset the remote fob, thanks for that!

Regarding the EKA, your car will have one. All MGFs have central locking. If the card supplied in the owners manual doesn't have it (a blank space) then someone has forgotten to fill it in. It should be possible to recover the EKA (useful in emergencies) - either using the Testbook diagnostic kit, or through X-Part service agents (and probably through companies like remotekey?)

i will look into that Rob, the space is not blank, its just got a dash across it.

This is the exact link for the possible causes of malfunction of the fob.. that enabled me to get mine working..

i share it 'cause its not obvious on the remotekey site..
