MG MGF Technical - mgf specialist near Southampton UK

Hey Guys n Gals,

Just got a '99 mgf and have a snagging list of things that need fixing (back end wobble, ride height adjustment. Looking for a specialist garage in Hampshire, hopefully near Southampton (lazy ar*e).PLEASE can someone help?

Let my mate loose driving her yesterday, he's an ex racing driver, with a stable of cars from a lambo. to a new cooper works....boy did i see what the car could do!!! needed a change of underware after!!! The car actually looked like it was smiling more after (not sure that the two previous lady owners in London had ever seem this side of her lol)

My last MG was a '65 midget, when i was at Uni...boy have they changed!!!

Be grateful for any help you can give me, cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,

If you look in the General MGF section, I've answered this for you.

Kris.

Try Viking Garages in West End, Southampton
M J Francis

Independant specialist seem hard to find in the area. Most of the main MGR dealers seem to have been recommended - Fareham, West End, and Winchester.

Currently I'm using Hilton Motors in Bond Road, Bitterne Park. Great family garage and the chap used to work for Rover. Plus its about 1/4 mile away from me!

Do I detect a South Hants MGF club in the making here? :-)

I make that 4 so far all based around Southampton. Any more??

Would you consider Aldershot/Farnham for South Hants MGF, if so count me in.
Ian Hunter

Hi Ian,

Sounds close enough to me.

I'm just wondering if it's worth beginning a new thread to see the possibilty of starting a Hampshire based get together?

The nearest club to us I think is the Essex Roadsters which is quite a trek from here.

Would also think about including anyone from the Isle of Wight if there are any?

i thought the MGCC had a local meeting. it did when I lived in Winchester

Hi Kris

Good idea, about time us 'ampshire hogs' got together
maybe we could have our version of Scarlet Fever, umm maybe the Black Plague or Yellow Peril. Keep in touch if you take it any further.

I previously used Falla Classics/Pokesdown Garage in Christchurch for my cambelt service and didnt have a problem with them although I know some who would disagree.

On Russell's advice I recently used Hilton Motors and will use them again. Family garage, knowledgeable sounding owner (although he didnt like my K&N pipes under the car!), reasonable labour costs.

As for a local club, well it would save Russell and I from boring our mates down the pub with tales of what gone wrong with our 'Fs each week!

Thanks Ian,

I think you've just accidentally solved a problem for me!

I've been trying to think of a name for my Trophy Yellow F for ages now since someone asked me what I call it and I couldn't think of anything original!

YELLOW PERIL!!!!!

I love it! :-) :-)

p.s. With regards to a local club, I will start a new thread this afternoon in the general section and lets see what response we get?

I agree with Pete completely, it would be good to be able to talk to other people about the F without everyone yawning or looking very confused! :-)
Kris

Hey guys..

tried to ring Viking at Hedge End 6 times now...press option for service dept. and go through to answerphone... maybe a sign if they cant work out where the ringing noise is comming from in the office lol.

Im game for a Hants meet...

Have booked her into garage in Northam near Shamrock quay, as a mate has his ferrari serviced there, although after hearing about Hilton, will canx and pop in and see him. Really after a friendly local to look after her, and bloke at Northam garage gave me a strange look when i gabbled what i wanted doing (is this the equivilent of the builders sharp intake of breath?) although said could do it.

Cheers for help guys

There is already a South East section of the MGF Register as well as Western. They both run events and meets that are only a drive away.

Kris (sorry YELLOW PERIL)

You owe this 'ampshire og' a pint

Sorry everyone I know this is not the right thread but
hey ho!!
Ian Hunter

I think you may be right Ian! :-)

Hi John,

The only thing with the two clubs you mention is that they both seem to deal with the extreme east and west. Being smack bang in the centre, which ever direction we choose, we still end up with a good couple of hours drive there and back.

Organising something for Hampshire would eradicate that and would open up possibilities for other owners who are perhaps located in the Isle of Wight for example.
(Not that I've heard from any!) :-)
Kris

Kris, and other Hampshire guys,

The F Register would welcome you setting up a local group and aim to support you as best we can. Contact Tim Morris (who runs the South-East group) or me for some details.

I have a similar problem to you on location. I live in Hertfordshire and, historically, there has been little Herts/Beds interest. Essex is a drag at night during the winter so I try join the Leicester area meets run by Phil & Lorna. Also get to Scotland at least once a year for a hotel weekend and have joined the SW crowd for lunch. It's all miles but good fun on a summer weekend. My wife & I decided that if we didn't go where there was a meet we would probably waste our time wandering round shops instead.
If you start an F-Reg group between SE & SW then I'll make a point of visiting you in the spring.

Hi Dave,

Many thanks for the supportive words.

Any information you can pass on would be gratefully accepted!

Once I've put the thread onto the general section (oops - meant to do that yesterday!) I'll be able to judge the interest and maybe get a few things organised - like the first official meeting place of the 'ampshire og F'ers! :-)
Kris Ford

Absolutely John! :-)

There are some fantastic coastal drives both here and on the island, so I'm sure there would be something good to do!
Kris Ford

Right then chaps,

I've now posted the thread in the general section so get your names down! :-)

Kris.
