MG MGF Technical - MGF Tunig Belgium

Hi,
I live in Liege Belgium and I search a dealer who sell kits for the MGF like the one of Mike Satur or anything else(for the engine, the exhaust,...).
Can you tell me some good adresses
Thanks a lot
Eric

Salut Eric,

I live in Liège too and I don't know any MGF tuner in Belgium, apart from the Lotus importer that advertises in "Le Moniteur Automobile" performance K engine upgrades.
Have you bought your F from Newcar Liège ?
The receptionnist (Etienne) told me last time he knew a chap who is developping supercharged K engines (200 bhp).
Apart from that, you'll have to order parts in UK (or sometimes in Germany) from Mike Satur, Krafthaus, B&G, Moss, ...
I read in another thread you were mechanical engineer ?
Did you graduate from ULG ? if yes, I was a fellow 5 years ago (EM-GM) !

Hi,
think on Moto-Concept, Cologne and Wiesbaden.

Would be nice to explore some more in our wider region between Liege and Cologne
;-) because most tuners I heard of are located in the south.

Yes Fabrice i bought my MG from Newcar. It is still in the showroom because i want to wait until January.
(So the certificate would be of the year 2000). It's hard to wait but on the other hand i just finished reading "The top 5 faults with MGF" and i must admit that i'm wondering if it was the right choice to buy it.
I graduate from ULG in june (EM-GM)
Are they serious in Newcar?

Eric,
I've always found Newcar serious and helpful. I'm quite lucky with my F because I've only had "minor" problems, and in the "right" place (in Liege, not in Italy or Scotland, for instance). When my suspension broke down twice, the did the job very quickly and I've never heard about the cost (Rover paid). Now, there's still sometimes a minor leak at the driver's window, but I think I'll try to fix it myself (I want to know how to do it) when I'll upgrade my speakers.
The only thing that's starting to really piss me off is the tracking and tyre wear problem. My car has had its 40000 km service 2 weeks ago and they adjusted the tracking : I hope it's now correct re. tyre wear, but the steering wheel isn't straight yet. Maybe I should take the car to a tyre specialist and have it adjusted to the proper values (from Dieter).
Wich one have you bought in the showroom, the silver 75LE or the black SE ?
If you register it only in January, why not waiting the MK2 (2000MY) with electric mirrors, 8 speakers stereo, etc ?
I hope to see you soon driving your F !

Regards,

Fabrice

Eric,

Anglo-Parts in Malines sell parts for the MG F (I know they have the two different SP Performance exhausts for example). I don't have the adress here but, if you are interested, I can e-mail it to you later.

>>Anglo-Parts in Malines sell parts for the MG F<<

you're right Per, but if I remember well, they're rather expensive ...
(just like Moss compared to Krafthaus for the splitter or the Cheetah bumper)

Fabrice

PS : are you EU employee or consultant ?
I used to park my F in the EU Council visitor's parking lot some time ago ...

Fabrice

Fabrice,
i bought the black SE. I didn't wait until the mk2 because with all the options in it,i had a very attractive price wich i wouldn't had with the mk2.
You said you have tyre wear problems but how often do you change your tyres?
I went to a garage last week and it's 7000BEF for 1 tyre so i hope i wouldn't have to change the tyres too often.

Hi Eric,
I have 15" wheels, so tyres are less expensive than 16", on average.
At the beginning, I had even tyre wear (I think so) until my first suspension breakdown at 17000 km. Then the front tyres wore rapidly and I bought a replacement set of 205's that lasted 8000 km.
I bought then 4 Bridgstone Potenza S02's (205 rear, 195 front) and had my F pumped up to the original ride height.
The left front tyre is still wearing unevenly. The dealer adjusted the tracking and said it was out of spec. So now, wait & see ...
BTW, the rear tyres have only a few mm left, after a little more than 10000 km. S02's = sticky but soft !

By the way, I have an SP performance exhaust system for sale (used only 2000 Km) for 10 000 BEF.

P.S: Fabrice, I do work for the Council. Is your car the BRG one I see in our car park from time to time?
Per

Hi Per,

my F is charcoal black.
Last time I came to the Council was about one year ago. I haven't personally worked for them since then.
Now I've just finished a project for the Parliament (Lux).

Fabrice

about your exhaust : are you going for another (deeper sound) exhaust, like the TrevorTaylor or MikeSatur ?
Fabrice

Fabrice,

Are the exhausts you mention deeper in tone? In that case I would be interested. The problem I found with the SP one is that it is quite simply way too noisy on a VVC. When accelerating it sounded like a completely free exhaust, which is not my idea of a great exhaust sound. I think that problem is particular to the "free breathing" VVC engine. I have heard an SP system on an 1.8i and it sounded ok, although still not very refined. I hope the coming article in MG World (or was it another magazine?) about replacement exhausts will also assess the (admitedly very subjective) issue of the "tone" of the different systems on an 1.8i and on a VVC.

Per,

I'm not in the secret of the exhaust test (well, I've spoken to some people, but I dunno the whole story).
The fact the SP has a high-pitched noise is admitted by everybody.
I've heard SP exhausts on both 1.8i's and VVC's and I don't think there's a so big difference.
Something sure is that with a cat bypass, it's very loud, at least on Dirk's car.
On Luc's 1.8i with cat, I don't think the SP is too loud.
Some others exhaust have a deeper note, but are not necessarily less loud than the SP, but surely easier to live with.
I've heard the MS Daytona, Motobuild and Jansen : all these sytems have a deeper sound than the SP, at different levels.
The TT is said to be loud and to have a very pleasant sound.
Watch out the results of the test, it's the best advice.
there will be bhp, noise, etc. figures.

Fabrice

PS : the Australian D&T exhaust looks very attractive ...
