mgtf Owners manual regarding 'how to open the hood'

Hi,

can someone please look up the manual and gimme some information about the content due to opening the hood ?

I'd like to get the original written english text.
Owners manual part number and edition also please.

Reason for this mad wish is that I just heard in our german forum that the german language manual 'should' include the former 'recommendation' to unzip got changed to an 'instruction' to unzip the rear screen.

Fax appreciated if possible to +49 89 2443 42636

Owners of other then english manuals are also asked to key in here how they understand that part of the manual.

Regards
Dieter
PS reffer to crazy MGTF test reports in D.

Don't have a fax but the text is:-

"To avoid causing permanent damage to the rear screen, it must be unzipped and laid flat in the area behing the seats, BEFORE the hood is lowered. Always observe the following proceedure:"

ref: p60 - Publication Part No. RCL 0492EN - English 12/2001 - MGTF Owners Handbook (supplied with TF 160 April 2002)

So you're right it is now an instruction; 'must' is stronger than 'should'.

I'm afraid, they are mad !!
IMO the only reason for this 'must' is to avoid from warranty claims.

Many thanks !

Cheers

PS. now I know another reason why sales drop.

I can also add that leaving the window in place for a period of time while the roof is down will cause it to crack. This happened to me while the car was being repaired and I got a new windoew out of it.

Later On a cold day - no snow or any of that I lowered the roof and the back window cracked on the fold - only a tiny crack but a crack nevertheless.

Must admit that the rear screen on my TF does not seem as good (pliable) as on the F. On the F I almost never unzipped the screen (except when Hard top was on) and in 6 years no problems. On the TF I don't think that will be the case.

As for warranty claims, if it did crack, most people would simply say that it cracked whilst lowering it flat after unzipping it. No way of proving different really, so I don't think it really works as a cost saver.

I think a more appropriate warning would be to avoid lowering the hood without unzipping when the weather is very cold, as this is how most screens crack.

Here in Cyprus with the hot weather we have now the screen is like jelly. There is no way it will crack but I think it could melt if left in the sun long enough!

Maybe they put the warning there just to avoid complains.

My screen cracked AFTER I had unzipped it and whilst I was laying it down on the parcel shelf. The weather was not particuarly cold.
