MG MGF Technical - Milky headllights - again

I know we have been down this road before - I am in discussions with Rover NZ. Have they fixed the problem or will I have to replace the lenses every three years?

My thought is to go with the trophy lights - are they immune?

An aside - is the problem csued by stronfger light bulbs than thsoe fitted? and why are the lenses plastic not glass - as Iam advised thay are?

Thanks for any advice

My 1997 headlamps have gone milky and I haven't touched the headlamp bulbs, so the problem isn't due to stronger light bulbs. I guess we won't know whether Trophy headlamps have the same problem for another two years or so, but if the cost is much the same, you have nothing to lose.

I'd be very surprised if the lense really was plastic, because there are very few materials other than glass that are both cheap and can withstand the temperatures inside a headlamp for very long.

The internal lenses are glass on my 98VVC. When I dismantled the light some months ago I gave the lenses a good clean with a glass cleaner and would say that much of the yellowing was removed. Alternatively it wouldn't be particularly difficult to replace the lenses every three years or so using replacements from an F breaker. I wouldn't have thought the Trophy lights immune, simply not old enough to show the symptoms.

How much would you say Neil? Mine certainly are in need of 'cleaning or replacement'
