MG MGF Technical - Need EKA code

My daughter would like me to find out what is her EKA (Emergency Key Access) code for her 97'MGF.
How can I get it? (No, we do not have the security card)

Cheers,
Branko

You can still get the codes through some ex-dealers in the UK, so maybe an Oz dealer could help?

Presumably you would need to show some proof of ownership, but the only snag there is you would ahve to turn up in person.

We only give out EKA codes to people that turn up at our garage with the V5C (vehicle registration document) and proof of their identity. This is a security measure that any trustworthy garage should follow.

I also could do with a EKA (Emergency Key Access) code, how much would it cost to get from a garage. Also how much would it cost to have another remote key fob reprogrammed. Thanks

Most garages charge around £10-15 for the EKA or factory radio code.

A replacement key fob for an F or TF is either £55.81 or £48.99 plus VAT, depending upon whether you have a square or round type fob. The fob needs programming to the car, and this can cost anything from around £30 to £80.

Hi Ralph,

This may sound like a really stupid question...but do you need to have the car with you??? (I've broken my key fob, can not get past immobiliser), hence can not drive to main dealer!!!

Good point PR, but yes you need the car to program the fob has to be programmed into the security module of the cars computer system.

Might get lucky with the EKA if its on a database Ralph has access to and not retreived from the cars computer.

Folks,

All praise be!!!

I have found my E.K.A. yeaaaaaaaaah!!! £20 saved.
As I dont have a handbook (just the ICE book and the service portfolio), I do not know what I have to do with this code. I believe I have to turn the key several times to correspond to the numbers but do you leave a pause between each number (not turn)?

The EKA is on a database that we, and all other XPart AutoService Centres, have access to. Details of how to use the EKA is in the owners handbook.

In order to program a fob the car has to be plugged into the diagnostic computer. If you want more than one fob usable on your car both fobs should be available when the programming is done.

Branko - I'm in the same situation as you. No EKA code & being in Australia we are very limited to our dealer choice. I'm sure Zagame's would help but I'm also sure they would charge at least $50 for the priviledge, as this seems to be their minimum charge to even stand up!!

If you want to see if they could give us both our EKA's for $50 I'm happy to halves with you.

BTW I'm now on mgtf02 rego in white on black slimlines so look out for us.

What do they actually do to get this? Use a computer for 2 minutes?

Neil,

I now have my EKA & Radio codes.

If you want to get yours, email me, bkrt (at) westnet (dot) com (dot) au

To enter your EKA code, turn to lock position (clockwise) and hold it there for at least five seconds, then for every number in the code, turn the key in sequence of unlock for first digit, lock for second etc.
code of 1,2,3,4
Five seconds to lock, then turn once to unlock, twice to lock, ensuring key goes to vertical between each turn, 3 to unlock, 4 to lock then final turn to unlock should have you in with immobiliser disarmed.

I have received numerous emails asking for EKA codes.

It is no secret as to how to get your EKA code.

Contact your local Rover/MG dealer and provide your proof of ownership and your Vin number.
Some will want to actually see the car and others will only need a copy of your rego papers and you drivers licence.

good luck.

Branko

When you have your EKA Code, check it works at each Annual Service or before any long Tour.
You may need it if you Park outside a Taxi Office whose Radio will kill your Handset.
In Switzerland when the car was new, the given EKA was wrong but I saw a Taxi Office and asked them to turn Off their Radio whilst I started the car. A bemused lady finnaly agreed and I was on my way.
