MG MGF Technical - New K&N
For all you ppl out thewre with a K&N fitted : I have just fitted my new K&N this afternoon, found it easy apart from positioning the air ducts, anyway i took the MG for a test drive and it sounds great and really grunty :) Is it suppose to be that loud!! as soon as u put the gas on it sounds like a dragster lol, i was going to be an after market backbox but i dont think i will need it with the sound of this baby. Go and buy one :) Paul. |

Hi Paul. I paid for one yeserday up at the NEC, will get it by weekend. How much did you pay for yours? Paul... |

Welcome to the world of air induction. |
Tim |
yse it is that loud! Try pairing it with a daytona exhast, now we're talking loud!! |
Kingsley |
I paid £89.99 + p&p from B & G Worth every penny :) Paul. |
Paul |
>>yse it is that loud! >>Try pairing it with a daytona exhast, now we're >>talking loud!! Throw away (not too far, MOT you know) the catalyst convertor and now you're talking about serious earbleading noise (and especially on a VVC)... Not really a thing I would suggest when you're driving around in cities very often. ciao, |

Or even better get a group of Treffeners to drive though the Baden Baden tunnel! Ted |

... argh, my bleedin' ears! ROFLMAO |

Kingsley, should you want a Cat bypass pipe to go with your wonderful Daytona exhaust, I happen to have my old one! It must be the most common thought on the first drive with the K&N fitted.... "What the hell did I forget to put back on?" or similarly, "What's dropped off?" - hehe With the bypass on, *then* its loud :D Steve. |
Steve Childs |
Also daytona + cat bypass pipe = more ground clearance. curse those speed bumps. |

Kingsley |
Kingsley, I would get the cat saver nuts anyway, even if you don't have a bypass. The sensor is another thing, I think its only a temp sensor so you might be ok by just disconnecting the light in the dash, but don't quote me on that! - That's probably worth a thread on its own. Steve. |

do you get any extra bhp from a cat bypass? |
kingsley |
Paul. I got it for £80.00. all in, a bargin! |
PAUL HINDLE |
>do you get any extra bhp from a cat bypass? It enhences the cat-live in any way ;) >...and then drive through a tunnel. Dd. at Heidelberg :) http://www.mgfcar.de/exhaust_milltek/gareth_Tunnel.MPG |

Does anyone know where there are any torque curve comparisons for the 1.8i fitted with a K&N???? I suppose there must be a Torque improvement?? What sort of power & Torque improvement could I expect to see if I fitted a larger Throttle Body together with a K&N onto a 1.8i?? (I understand the Trophy TB will fit a normal 1.8i) Cheers Nigel |

Paul gutted i paid the £89.99 + p&p and it came to near a ton £100 :( oh well its worth it for the sound alone :) regarding the cat bypass pipe, i have bought 1 but having trouble getting the nuts off, when i do, will it make a difference to the Hp??? Paul. |
Paul |
Gutted? Nope I paid £89.99 including VAT and POST from Kinor and the stupid grin was free!! Is there a specific exhaust that compliments the K&N? Regards James |
James |
<<Is there a specific exhaust that compliments the K&N?>> As stated above, Mike Satur's Stainless Steel Daytona Exhaust (with a variety of exhaust finishers) compliments the K&N nicely. |

>>Does anyone know where there are any torque curve comparisons for the 1.8i fitted with a K&N????<< Yes, see http://www.mgf.4mg.com/rolling_1.htm Also here are our (Paul S, Andy P, Andy G, Tom R, Roger P and myself) rolling road comparison of the various cat replacement options- see http://www.mgf.4mg.com I want to RR test the larger TB. JT mailed me about his work and has been as complimentary about it as everyone else with the larger diameter Trophy and GM TBs... |
Rob Bell |
Hmmm Interesting, if MGR have tweaked the 1.8i up to 135BHP by puting a better induction system, TB and Exhaust on I wonder what effect the presumably superior K&N induction system will have on an already 135BHP 1.8i??? Nigel |

PERFORMANCE EXHAUSTS.... Have you had a look a the Milltek sport range? Very nice. S/S and you can have it with 4 out pipes. It is the dog's bes. Not chepe but worth £345. I would like one one day. Paul... www.milltek.co.uk |
