MG MGF Technical - No lockup ?

I have noticed that I cannot lock the wheels on my car when I stamp on the brakes. Even in the damp I've tried as hard as I can at 30 mph.

The brakes have plenty of pad ( fronts only green stuff ). I bled the fluid a couple of weeks ago as part of the service - no change.

I have trohpy wheels on this ( 98 1.8 ) so a bit more grip, however surely you should be able to lock ?

Also, does the Trophy still have the torque bar setup to get brake force from right to left across the engine bay ? If so surely is has the extra stiff brake bracket you can buy B&G etc ? Every article on the Trophy states very good brakes, is that all down to the just the better disks and pots ?

ABS!, Perhaps?.

How old is your car Charlie ?
I'd suggest that the problem with your brakes has more to do with servo movement and failing seals than an lnherent problem with the discs.

Unfortunately, the Trophy does not use the B&G bracket - which means that this car too is destined for dodgy spongy brakes too :o(
Rob Bell

Mark - I'm going to ignore that, surely it was joke.

Rob - interesting, its coming upto 6 yrs old now. I would have thought the dubious seals would also not allow the legal pressures to be applied as per the MOT test which was fine. I was in the car when doing the tests and the gauges rose pretty much in parrallel and to a good level ? Would that be different to the reaction time of getting the force down ? Presumably you can lock yours and I think you car is the same age ?

It was partly a joke!.
But many years ago i had an Escort Which had very poor brakes, and the fault was traced to a Faulty ABS sensor.
Also my brother is an MOT tester and he has had problems with certain cars on the rolling road, where the ABS comes in to soon which stops the brakes working to the limit.

may not apply in your case, and Im no mechanic, but just a Idea!.

Charlie,
On the assumption that nothing wrong with brakes firm pedal etc servo working.

Do you left foot brake? If not give it a try in a very safe place and see if they lock!
