MG MGF Technical - oil temp rising with 10W40 oil
I own a MGF mpi of 98, first 1 changed the air filter with a K&N 57i kit (great sound and smoother driving), after this modification the oil temp was normal (almost 120 degrees) during normal driving. a few days later the dealer changed the 'normal' oil with synthetic 10W40 Castrol GTX. And now the oiltemp is increased with 10 degrees. Is this normal? the sensor is ok. |

I think I have the same small increase seen when I changed to 10W40. Though not sure cause the weather got warmer as well. I get currently the 120°C at an average of 90 to 100 mph. Did a long ride today and a short distance of 25 miles on the motorway with 125mph and read 135°. http://www.mgfcar.de/instruments/oil_135_0249.jpg --> is I think 135° ;) Ambient temperature was about 17° C. This is the max. average temperature I always do. My speedo is the oil gauge. Slow down if it gets 135°C. I did so with the old MGF and this also is the maximum I do with the current. 30k plus now 42k km without any engine problem. Normally I have between 110 and 120 degrees in the summer and just 10 or 15 less in winter. I need to add that the air inlet and outlet is a bit modified with a sport exhaust an short air inlet length to a big GM throttle body. K&N panel filter in the standard airfilter box. All around I think 120 to 135 temperature readings or nothing to worry about at an MPI. Though I'll change back to full synthetic oil (5W30) as soon as I find time. Wanna see the difference. Dieter |
