MG MGF Technical - Optimizing my nightvision: anyone installed 'brighter' headlight-bulbs ?
Did anyone uprate the headlight-bulbs on his/her MGF ? If I could improve the "night-vision" of my MGF, without blinding the other road-users, and without damaging the inner headlights components, I would mostly welcome it. Better nightvision = better road safety. I've read on the Porsche Boxster BBS that some owners consider it as an alternative to the (expensive but o so excellent) Xenon-lights (called Litronics), but do warn to refrain from installing headlight-bulbs which are "too strong" because "more Watt = more heat", and heat isn't exactly the best friend of the components inside headlights. So any ideas or experiences to share ? Cheers, Luc |

Hi Luc, I was also wondering if a bulb change would improve the night vision, without more Watts. There are several so called uprated bulbs such as the Philips Blue Vision. If you search the archive, I guess you'll find some interesting postings. Cannot help more so far :( Fabrice |

stop by your local army navy thrift shop and pick up some military-grade nightvision goggles. Should make nite driving more interesting... But, don't stare into the headlights of oncoming cars... :)Although the complaints I hear from US Army heli pilots is that it inhibits depth-perception... So watch out for braking too late into corners as well... In all seriousness, I do find the F's headlights are lacking unless you can keep your brights (highbeam) on all the time. |

Luc, I'm not sure if you mean "dipped or full"... The following is for "dipped"... You need to be persuasive and patient with your local dealer. I had three different dealer look at this on my 1.8 (Mk2 oct99). Then focused in. At the maximum setting there is remarkable diference between fully addjusted and just a little more! My local garage got that remaining 1% extra “up” and my dip beam is now v.g. Best wishes Francis PS. I find the MGF standard “full beam” is astronomically fantastic. |
