MG MGF Technical - overheating problems
Can anyone help..... My MGF has had overheating problems, supposedly due to the inlet manifold gasket - some plastic pipe blowing off its fitting and spraying out coolant - car then overheats, engine repeatedly stalls and smoke/steam pours out the boot vents. The dealer fitted a "modification" part but after only 1000 miles I'm having the same problems. I'm not technically minded and haven't had my MGF long. If anyone has had similar problems I would appreciate knowing what they did to resolve this. Thanks. |

Alistair, >Can anyone help..... Not anyone, but the dealer that repaired your car the last time. >some plastic pipe blowing off its fitting and spraying out coolant Sorry that description can be nearly everything in the area of the inlet manifold. Which Engine has your car ? the VVC ? or the mpi ? dk |

I hate to say this but it could be a blown HG. The inlet gasket goes causing HG failure which causes green stuff all over the floor (thus temperature out of control)? Looks like it's back to the dealer, whatever the problem, I don't think it should be driven. I could be totally wrong, but is sounds suspiciously like the same symptoms. |

your dealer sucks! another HGF IMHO... and trust me, sometimes even with a blown head gasket is very hard to detect it. When my first HG went it took my dealer 3 days of testing before the thing overheated again, and since nothing could be found they decided to open up the engine to discover the gasket had moved a few mm... enough to let the coolant out from time to time. |
