MG MGF Technical - PAS Light Comes On When Driving....
yes here we go again .... the PAS light came on when I was driving the car away from the dealer's on the day I picked it up last July and the steering wheel became very heavy. Went straight back to the dealer's and he turned off the ignition and turned it back on and the PAS light went off. Have not recurred until 2 days ago when it happened ago. Turned off the ignition and turned it back on and the PAS light went off. Any ideas so that I can tell the chaps at the garage when I put it in for warranty repairs? |

Jody This can happen if you have been keeping high(ish) revs but not actually moving - it confuses the PAS control unit and so goes into fail safe mode which is reset when you switch off and on again. Ted |

Ted, thanks for that, but was only driving at about 40-50mph in 4th gear when it happened. what do you think? |

Jody, There isn't much to the system really. the ECu controls the motor on the column based on three inputs, torque measurment from a sensor on the steering column, road speed input and engine speed. Interuption in the continuity of the circuit between any of these and the steering ECU will trip the default 'safe mode'. The only useful thing that comes to mind now is to monitor if the fault occurs at a time when the car has hit a pot hole or other rough road surface. A simple duff connection is often the root of many electrical problems. Rog |
