MG MGF Technical - PCV valve
Morning all. Is there a PCV valve on the 1.8mpi. I ask this as I am gradually working my way round the ignition and fuel system. This is in an attempt to rid the car from poor starting when cold. Changed to date: Fuel filter Plugs Rotor arm Distributator cap air filter New coolant temp sensor ( courtsey of the dealer ) To do Leads ( today hopefully ) Additives Wynns fuel additive Wynns injector spray cleaner. Check vaccum pipes and PCV valve ? Anybody any other ideas ? Cheers. |

>>Is there a PCV valve on the 1.8mpi. << Yes (if PCV = purge control valve ) I think this is the AC Delco component which sits just to right of the MEMS (visible with engine cover removed). >>Anybody any other ideas ?<< How's the coil? Get a mobile crypton/sun tuner to take a look at ignition when cold starting. They should be able to locate an ignition fault quickly. Steve |

Thanks for that Steve. Of to see if my leads have arrived from Mike Satur. |

If it is worse when damp, then my money would be on th HT leads. I was amazed at the difference when I changed mine. Paul |

PCV valve is a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve. It operates primarily for when the engine is hot, to suck the excess oil fumes out of the crankcase alleviating pressure build up. This is unlikely to be the cause of poor starting. Generally if the PCV valve is malfunctioning it will cause a rough idle. I agree with Paul, the spark plugs/leads/coil are the most likely to help poor cold starting. Poor starting warm tends to be coil/crankshaft position sensor/leaky fuel injectors. Reading the archives indicates the spark plug leads are the weakest link in the MGF |

Changed the leads and gave it a good spraying with injetor cleaner. Its like a new car! |
