MG MGF Technical - Performance mods and LPG

A question for the technically minded amongst us. My 1996 1.8i MGF is very happily running on duel fuel in what I believe to be its standard configuration, standard air box, filter and exhaust system.
I am considering changing to a sports system and K&N filter setup or similar. (Only gathering data and info at this stage).
Does anyone know if this can be done without having to have the LPG system adjusted?

Thanks,
Martin

Where did you fit the LPG tank?. Does the extra weight effect the handling? and lastly the 1.8i is so economical it would have to travel over 60K miles a year to see any savings.

Hi Andrew,
The LPG conversion was in place when I bought the car so as far as handling is concerned I would have to be honest a say that I can't comment, although it seems to handle perfectly well.(I don't go steaming around the roads, did that for many years on motorcycles
:-)) )
Also I don't need to recoup the cost of having it fitted all I notice is the positive effect it has on my wallet as LPG is readily available.
It is in the boot, which I'm aware is a crumple zone, but you can't have everything...and it still leaves space for a couple of overnight bags, but the golf clubs would need to sit in the front.

the answer is "it depends", but I guess you know that ;-)

If the LPG conversion uses the MEMS to work out fuelling you should have no problem, the MEMS uses a manifold pressure sensor to work out the amount of air entering the engine, as the filter is upstream of the sensor it should be fine. The exhaust will probelby not make a huge difference.

the biggest differences you will notice are in the noise, which makes the car feel faster ;-)

Hi Martin

As with any fuel, the more air and fuel, the bigger the bang, therefore the more the power!

A larger exlaust will allow air to exsit faster, therefore more power, but you must ther let more air in to take full advantage of the system!

As your gas system will run through the plenum multiple throttle bodies will be out of the wuestion, therefore an enhanced air filter and single plenum mounted throtle body will allow you to take advantage of the exhaust and gain you additional power!

I have a few bits including a larger TB that has ome off my car since I fitted multi TB's if you are looking for performance parts. Just give me a buzz!

Good luck
