MG MGF Technical - Plugs and Leads
I changed the plugs and fitted 8mm High Performance plug leads to my 18,000 mile, late 97 VVC, a few days ago. Did the job for peace of mind rather than trying to cure a problem. Nice straightfoward job, no problems. The result is remarkable. Much smoother acceleration, very noticeable in 2nd gear and much better response through the whole range. I cannot say whether the improvement is due to the leads or a plug change as I changed them together. Well worth doing at this sort of mileage. |

Tim, Which plugs did you use - I put the 80mm magnecor leads on my VVC a while ago and didn't notice much difference. - Andy S6 AJG |

Andy, I fitted the standard Champions from Brown and Gammons,£20 the set. |

Another example of why I have often said to change the plugs far more frequently than the published shedules say. Rog |

Are the Champion RC7YCC plugs the correct double copper versions for a VVC ?? |
Gaz |
Gaz, Not really as the heat range for the VVC is the same as the 1.8i, which in Champion speak will be 9. The 7 you mention will be a colder running plug which will have a much faster heat dissipation rate and so at light throttle and light loads there will be a greater possibility for the plugs to run too cool and to misfire and foul up. The ideal Champion plug should be the RC9YCC or the NGK alternative of BKR6E. I think you may have noted my preference to NGK plugs, although the power advantages that NGK gave over Champions regularly a few years ago has essentially gone now. I still feel that like for like the NGK has a wider heat range and is more tolerant of extremes of operation (stop start traffic to flat out track days). Rog |

Thanks Rog, I have now fitted the NGKs ... |
