MG MGF Technical - Plugs and leads. A worth while up grade.
After my F started playing up and finally not starting on Monday I replaced the leads and plugs with Magnicor and NGK after reading through the archives. What a difference. I know the plugs are supposed to be good for 60,000 but they must have 'gone off' after 4 years. Throttle response is so much smoother. A well worth up grade from the OE, though the routing of the leads is rather torturous and time consuming. Thanks to the BBS archives and all the contributors. John. |

Nice one John :o) The fresh components do make for a surprising difference don't they? Definitely worth changing ahead of the service schedule IMO. :o) |

Personally think 30k miles is about the limit for a decent spark on the OEM, even though they will work for much longer. It's such a simple DIY job that it's worth changing them sooner. The OEM leads (at least on the F, and I assume they are the same on the TF) are pretty poor, and the magnecor seemed much better. Again another fairly simple job worth doing DIY. Only drove into work this morning after changing the plugs and leads but I felt a big improvement. :o) I think No. 3 lead had been chaffing on the head, not through to the insulation, but close I suspect and No. 1 plug wasn't set to the correct gap either! Pretty good considering it's been in there since new, 4 years ago. Praise to Brown and Gammons for fast delivery of parts. |
