MG MGF Technical - Pulling to left under braking
Help!!!! I am running out of money. The past month of MGF ownership is looking like a catalogue of disasters. Our 52,000 mile 1997 car has started to drop to bits. 4 weeks ago. Head gasket blows due to water pump failure. Reassembled with new belts and car refuses to idle at under 3K rpm. Evans Halshaw in Reading diagnose faulty plastic throttle body and replace with nice new shiny metal one. Bill £1100 all in. 3 weeks ago. Car is front ended in low speed impact <5mph and insurance excess £600 for new bumper, LHS headlight and bent bonnet. 2 weeks ago. Car returned shiny and looking new but is pulling to left under braking - but only at over 70mph. Runs straight as a die at less than this speed. Goes back to bodyshop assuming suspension damage and they find a rear suspension bush missing and claim the brakes look a bit rusty - but they do a 4 wheel track. Car therefore goes back to Evans Halshaw who replace brake disks and pads all round together with the odd suspension bush. Cost £600. Clonking from rear suspension gone but car still pulls to left but still only under braking at motorway speeds (>70mph) After much browsing of the BBS I have been reminded that 5 weeks back I had to fit a new right rear tyre because of a puncture. It certainly has more tread than the left rear. Should I swap this tyre for the left to see if this cures the problem or is it time to go back to the dealer again for serious suspension checking ? Ian Dorrian PS The heater airbox has stopped leaking for the first time in 5 years with the help of silicone sealant and the bulletin board. Also my first HGF was replaced by MGR at 22k miles free of charge and out of warranty although they wouldn't give me any documentation to show it ever happened. |
