MG MGF Technical - pulsing speedo

hi can someone help problem is i just had speedometer
fixed burnt out wire. speedo now works. but is ok at 40mph but when i speed up the neddle jumps and jerks
garage say thay can do no more so looking for help

First question. Is it a Mechanical Speedo before MY2000 or Electronic post ??
