MG MGF Technical - Reinier Fao Dieter, regarding "tieferlegung" by Jansen

Hi Dieter,

As you might know I've had the suspension of my F lowered by about 5cm at British Car Jansen. At this moment I'm regretting this decision each time I drive my F.. Do you know what they did over there? Have they mounted those so called lowering knuckles, or did they do something else? I'm going to try to have the lowering corrected by a Dutch dealer, but I guess they'll want to know what has been added/removed. Hoping you can help me, regards Reinier
Reinier

Reinier, I assume you have got them to pump up the hydrogas to standard pressure, I'm not sure how Jansen do it, I would assume that they use the standard 30mm lowering knuckles and do the rest with lowering the hydrogas. They may however cut normal knuckles down, in which case you need to either get the 30mm knuckles or get normal ones and go back to freelander mode. Dieter, is the right person to ask though.

I would be interested in what problem you have with your lowered F, 50mm is very low, I think that's even lower than Scarlet.
Tony

Hi,
agree with Tony, short knuckles + green stuff release.
But found by own experiance that different short knuckles are availiable. Looking at the standard bolt (in my hand!) its possible to get them turned (lathe) about 12 to 14 mm shorter. That is much more the Carl did (-7mm to get -28mm)
(12 will lead to -48mm)
I've learned a lot about it the last weeks.

If you agree I'll call Mr Kirch tomorrow and ask for a solution.
I don't beleave that I get the 'true' inner bolt length to calculate myself whats the best but I think my skills are good enough to get all needed values for a 'higher' chassis position, which can be adjusted at your local dealer.
He will get a problem in Germany if I do'nt get ;-))
I like BBS.... a good tool

Did you or your dealer measure the actual hight ?
For first aid it should be no problem to go up about 10mm without any alignement. I must have a look at your alignement sheet, it is online... Sure place :)

I talked to Mr Kirch :-) very constructiv help, thanks fly to him. :)

1. Let the pressure of the Hydra system increase up to 420 to 430 lbs.
this will result in a about 20mm higher position.

Your knuckle set application allows an about 20 mm higher lever then adjusted at Jansen. That should be 338mm.
You must not have a new four wheel alignement if you go up only about 10mm.

1.1 you actual should have a pressure between 350 to 400 lbs

2. print out the above documents and this instructions. (you will need a grafic SW or anything else to decrease the width of the GIF and JPG)
.
2.1 forward the tiefer.gif and reinlow.gif to your dealer.

3. give your dutch dealer Mr. Kirchs phone. Tell him to call Mr. Kirch if he is in dought and has anything is to ask.

Hoping this helps :o)

Regards
Dieter
PS. the first I'll do on Monday is a webside of this message Links ;-)

Dieter, my E-mail adress is R.v.beest@trends.nl

thanks in advance, I agree with you about the BBS. I've learned/seen so much in the past months, I think I know more about the F(and its problems) then y dealer does(bunch of incompetent fools. This week they've replaced the petroltanl, and after that my electricla systems almost completely failed, strange, they didn't touch that..) reinier
Reinier

Diter, my last message isn't necessary i Think. Thanks very much for your info, I'll give the documents you mentioned to my dealer!
