MG MGF Technical - Relay Puzzle
As a new owner of a 2005 TF I am puzzled as to the reason why some of the relays are soldered into the Body Control Unit and others are removable and fitted beside the passenger compartment fuses. Is there a logical explanation? RELAYS IN BODY CONTROL UNIT Rear Fog Lights Electric Window (drivers side only) Central Locking/Superlocking Windscreen Intermittent Wipe Windscreen Washers Horn. RELAYS BESIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FUSE BOX Electric Window (passenger side only) Engine Bay Fan Heated Rear Window Indicators Front fog lamps Air Conditioning |

I would suggest where the relays are is a combination of factors. The horn and deadlocks you'd expect to be in the BCU for security reasons, the rest I would suggest are placed there for pragmatic reasons. I'm not familiar with what relays, if any, were in the previous design but they changed with the change from F to TF. I would suggest it's likely the design team either ran out of space with the other relays or the Pektron BCU had some spare relays and it was easier/cheaper to use these Bob |
