MG MGF Technical - removing engine cover

hi there, could anyone tell me how to remove the engine access cover, is it the parcel shelf?, from what i can gather its easier to fill up with oil from the rocker cap. plus i want to check for any leaks .thanx
s hardy

Yes, it's under the parcel shelf.
Undo the clips that hold the hood onto the body and pull the hood up forwards (a bungee cord will help hold it in place)
Remove the "felt" parcel shelf and then the insulation.
Undo all of the 10mm bolts, I think around 10 from memory, not missing the two tucked in under the section behind the seats, then remove the engine metal cover.
You can now get at the engine.
Fitting is simply all in reverse - about a 1/2 hour job.
You can fill the engine via. the oil filler cap without removing the engine cover but use a funnel and do it VERY slowly, takes a good 10 minutes if your into an oil change (at least)

Me tried once in my live, 7 years ago and it ended up with half a litre of best oil on the floor.
Don't do it ! the oil down pipe is only 4 mils diameter and app 40cm long. Impossible to fill up with cold oil.

Anyway, if you check for leaks.
Onbolt the spark plug cover strip and tighten all cam cover bolts with 9Nm. Loose bolts are almost the reason for oil leaks there.
