MG MGF Technical - Service
I own a 1998 MGF 1.8 VVC with only 3000 miles on the clock. It has been serviced regularly since new. It is due to be serviced again now. The dealership has quoted me £195.00, this seems excessive considering its mileage. I asked another garage and they said it will need an oil and filter change and checking over. They will do this for £85.00. How important is it that its service remains with the dealership to maintain the cars value? What would a 4 year old car with 3000 miles need doing to it and what would be a reasonable price? |

£195 for a four year service is about the going rate from dealerships. It's the age, not the milage. A dealership stamp in the service book is worth a bit when you come to sell. Oil and filter change is easily done by yourself for about £30. |

Thanks JFK. The garage that will do the service for £85.00 including the oil change is a service centre (Not MGF though). Will the car hold much more value by getting a service stamp from the MGF dealer rather than any garage. I will probably keep the car 3-5 years. What would a garage do on a four year service? Does this still need doing even though its only done 3000 miles? |

As JFK says, it is worth having the MGR stamp if you intend to sell the car in the next few years. Next year will be the painful one... Cam belt, and thay really is one you cannot afford to miss. Cam belts must be changed on time not distance as a friend of mine discovered to his £3000 cost.... on an alfa Ouch..... |

Er... not trying to be funny, but if it's an (early) '98, isn't the next one the 5 year? That's what I'm heading for in a couple of months... |
