MG MGF Technical - Servo Bracket

Hi,

My F went in for its first MOT today, and I hung around whilst it was done, mainly to see whether the oil temp on the gauge matched that recorded on the emissions test kit. (The gauge was half-way between the 60 and 90 deg readings, and the test kit read 82 deg, so it wasn't a mile out.)

Anyway, with the bonnet open one of the testers applied the foot brake. I was amazed to see just how much the servo flexed, it looked as if it was about to jump out of the car. So I think a servo stabilising bracket is the next thing to fit, and sooner rather than later. There is a piece on this in this month's Saftey Fast, with rather garbled instructions and an upside-down photograph. For those who have them, does it do the trick and do you have to drill the bulkhead to fit them?

Regards, Kes.

Hi Kes,

is it the one same as from B&G ?
If so, than it gets to the two screw locations at the brake cylinder assy (brake vacuum thing). *what in heaven is the name of that black can !?!*
Leads than to the bulkhead. There you need to drill two holes.

Notice for LHD cars. The bracket cannot be just converted, cause in our LHD car case the transmission pipe from the brake pedal on the left side has not enough clearance. A small part neeads to be cutted with a hacksaw or similar from the bracket.

Owners I heard off were pleased to talk about improvements.

Have the mod fitted and it's a cheap way of firming up the brake peddle.
Well worth it.

Theres a great article in the Dec/Jan MG World mag about an MGF Rally Car. It has a comprehensive list of mods - many of which could be applied to a standard car. Excellent read and more publicity (although not explicit) for having a Techspeed makeover.

The brake servo bracket is mentioned along with removal of the brake apportioning valve 'to increase rear bias'.

I've had my bracket for some time now. Just waiting for my trip to TS in the New Year to have it fitted along with a number of other bits and pieces.
