MG MGF Technical - Sports Exhaust on a 1997 1.8 VVC, bpm??

Does anyone know how much bpm will be achived if a sports ws to be put on this model of car. Thanks
James alexander

i think you mean bhp it depends if you leave the cat on or not!

The bypass dont work at all on the vvc due to the pressures, you actually loose power. I just want to know what is the best stainless steel exhaust which will give me the best bpm gain and the deeper sound which strive for lol

That's an interesting comment about the CAT bypass James.
I have been on and off a bypass in the past - when my CAT failed, and I always thought the bypass was signifcantly better that my present CAT (which is new).

On a VVC upto 14400BPM, although diffrent box's resonate at diffrent frequencys which can give you a more boomy sound. Best to hear the diffrent boxes in a carpark - can you wait for the summer?

It's obviously silly season on the Tech BBS at the moment ROFL!

James, you're quite right regarding the catalyst. When we did these tests at Aldon (and verified time and again by others) removing the catalyst has no benefit for either the 1.8MPi or VVC. Neil, you may find that the engine revs more freely, and that it is noisier, but in reality, there is no extra power - sorry. Paul Sharpe's write up can be found here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/catalysts.htm

As regard to power gains with different exhaust systems, I haven't systematically tested the VVC, but what we saw on the MPi can probably be extrapolated to the VVC (ie about +5bhp gain depending on system used) - more here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/exhaust/exhaust_menu.htm

Hi James,
I have the Super Sports exhaust from B&G and I would think Rob is right at about 5bhp. Also fitted is 52mm throttle body and a K&N air filter, comparing my car to a 160hp Trophy I think the gain is 12-15bhp in total plus a lovley note under heavy acceleration.
