MG MGF Technical - SRS light sometimes on
Hi My SRS light keeps turning on with no apparent reason. Some times it will remain off for lots of km's, others, it will go on on start, and others after a few kms. Does anyone have a clue or a similar problem? I already took it to the dealer but they could find nothing (the darn light didn't go on while the car was there). thks in advance |

There is loads on this one. Either the Stearing wheel airbag circular contact or the seat belt pre-tensioners. Deiters site has good instruction to rmedy the problem. Alternatively stick a little bit of black tape over the SRS light :o) I have the same problem but just haven't got around to fixing it yet... Tim |

Hi Carlo, nice to hear from another Portuguese mate around hear, you could try search for a wire behind your seat and try to switch it on and off again and see if it results, that switch controls if the seat belt pre-tensioners are ok or not. Once my light came on after a service and I saw the dealer receptionist connect that same switch and the light went off. Bye Joao brg 18-12-MJ |

Check the plugs under the seats, if these are intacted, likely to be your rotary coupler that fits into ur steering wheel. New model should be around 70 pounds. Yes it has been revised. I paid 2/3 of its retail price as things like that should not break down. Regards, Hanah |

I have found with my 1995 (October) *F* that I can make the SRS light come on/go off dependant upon the positioning of the passenger seat - naturally, the seat is now in such a position thet the light is out (it does come on when the ignition is switched on, but goes out after a few seconds). Mine stayed on all the time then i realised that the fool that fitted my leather seats put the bolt straight through the cable quick connecting block soon fixed this :0) |

M.J. that possibly means that the connection under the seats are not connected well. Well the contact is not good. Give it unplug and re-plug. Hope that fixes it permanently. |

MJ, Also the wire is ment to be attached to the bottom of the seat with the same connector. If the seats were badly fitted then it is possible to trap the wire (car side) and this will shorten the travel of the seats and strain the connector- if this is so then you can either unbotlt the seat and free the wire, or disconnetc the clip from the seat. Dear all, It's also worth while checking the wiring to the passenger air bag (not fitted in my car). I was fiddling around under the dash above the glove box over the weekend and since then the SRS light has not come on. The SRS light has been a pretty much permenent feature until now. I must have knock a wire inadvertently. Tim |

Hi all, About the rotary coupler? What exactly is itīs funcion? Just transfer current to the airbag module witha carbon-brush and pin type rotary connector? Or is there something else to it. I got a bit scared seeing the big exclamation mark "do not rotate !!!" and warning triangle in the workshop manual chapt. dealing with the removal of the steering wheel and ass. Taping it up to prevent movement upon removal seemed a shear impossible task to me. David. |
