MG MGF Technical - SRS warning light
Has a TF 135 with a small accident damadge with SRS light indicator on all the time! No viable damadge to anything, no airbags nor seatbelt gone but found one of the airbag connectors to the passenger airbag had fallen out !!! I just put it back! Now the SRS indicator turns off for 1/2 second when I turn of the ign/ start the car then gets back on again! Don't know how the system works on this car but do I just have to hook it up to a computer to remove the fault indication - or might it be someting else thats wrong! It clearly act different now with connector hooked up again! |

Hi, Your first check should be the SRS connectors under each seat. One could be disconnected, especially if the seat has been moved. You are advised to disconnect the battery first and wait 20 minutes to ensure the SRS system has fully discharged. Make sure you have your radio code before you disconnect the battery as you will have to re-enter it. After you re-connect your battery re-sync your key fob by by pressing either button several times until the locks operate. Hopefully your problem will be sorted. willyphixitt |

Hopefully it'll be the seat connectors - but another area that'll cause the SRS to illuminate is the connections to the steering wheel airbag - and particularly the rotary connector. The connections to this aren't the most robust, and indeed the ribbon cable inside the coupler is not the strongest. If its been removed and replaced incorrectly, it is possible that the cable or connectors can be stressed and causing an intermittent electrical connection... |

I will check this tomorrow but would the SRS indicator light turn of as soon as the problem are fixed, or does it need to reset by a computer before it turns off? |

Should be extinguished once the problem has been solved - doesn't require a diagnostic computer to be attached to reset the SRS. |

just had my mgf freestyle 1.8cc for 4 weeks now and have just come across this problem with SRS warning light now on permanently.does anyone know the exact position of the seat connections and are they easy to get to.any feedback would be greatly appreciated thanks |

They're directly under the seats - the wiring harness coming up through the carpet. They're practically in the middle - you might be able to reach with the seat in or out at full reach, or you may find it easier to release the 4 T50 bolts and tilt the seat upward... Good luck - and I'd advise disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes before touching the SRS system to avoid any potential for unintentional airbag deployment. |

If you remove the driver's footwell light panel you can see the MFU for the SRS just in front of the gearlever. This has a funny sort of failsafe connector; which can fail to be connected! When mine was only partially 'home' the SRS led would come on and stay on if I took right handed corners a bit sharpish. Obviously check the 'usual suspects' first - pretensioner wiring and rotary coupler; and never underestimate random application of electrical contact cleaner spray - Halleluiah! - its a blooming miracle. |
