MG MGF Technical - Stainless Steel Air Intakes

I am seriously considering getting some stainless steel side intakes. Couple of questions.....

1. Do they come as a complete package, i.e rather than just the mesh part. Do they also have outer part?

2. How easy or difficult are they to fit for a non DIY person.

3. Can anyone recommend any quality ones.

Thanks

Neil,

Drop me an email I might be able to offer you something.

Have a look at the Brown & Gammons web site, they do a couple of options, I bought the crimpled set which included both front and side vents for about £65.

There are a number of web sites which give instructions of how to fit, its quite easy and should not take more than a couple of hours including bumper removal.

Also check out Ashley Hinton's site: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/ah/

He's got the same style grilles. I bought mine from him some while back (3 years ago I think)- they're excellent. Straightforward to fit into the existing trims.

The engine vent trims need to be separated from the grilles- but since all that is holding them in is some silicone sealant, this is pretty easy to do. When you come to replace, you'll need some silcone to complete the job to fix the new grilles into place. Easy-peasy really :o)

Neil,

I prefer the interwoven mesh grilles. IMO they look more substantial and provide a nice link back to the mesh used on the headlamp protectors of old MGs.

Got mine from Mike Satur. Only know of a grille set i.e. sides and front bumpers - not just sides. And, just mesh - not complete side air-intake, to answer your question.

As Rob says, real easy to fit. I'm no DIY person. For the sides I used a hot glue gun to fix the new mesh into the surrounds after cutting the old black mesh free from the original mastic with a stanley knife. Front bumper is also easy - there are instructions for bumper removal on various web sites. The grilles are just held on with small screws - easy to replace.

As we're both in Bucks - contact me if you want to see the grilles on my car or if you want some help.

Thanks Dave, may well take you up on that offer. I am going to shop around for the ones I think look best first.

I think that B&G sell chrome side grills with chrome sourounds- but I think that just the grills look better.

B&G sell the steel mesh and chrome intake surrounds separately, but this whole area of the car is very easy to dismantle and reassemble.

The B&G intake surrounds, which I have, are much cheaper than Mike Satur's. However, B&Gs are simply a chromed 'facade' which you stick onto your existing body-coloured surrounds. They really do need to be squeezed into place overnight with cable ties - and having done that, mine have never shown any signs of falling off.The MS items are the complete unit which you bolt onto the car, thus explaining the price difference!

Just use Dave and Rob's instructions for fitting grilles to surrounds.

Having said that, I'm not sure tha B&G have the surrounds in stock at the moment.

While I think of it, one of the MG clubs ?MGOC had alloy-effect surrounds on their website a while ago.
