MG MGF Technical - Starter motor problem?
Went to start the F today, it has been laid up over winter. When I try to start, there is just a loud rapid rattle from the rear left side of the engine (all lights etc OK). I think I have identified the starter motor and tried hitting it with a hammer - not easy. Also tried rocking the car in second gear. Still just makes a loud rattle. Is the starter motor stuffed? |

I'd suspect the battery to be honest. |

Does it do that if there's not enough oomph? |

I agree with Pete, sounds like the battery doesn't have enough grunt to do the job ! A quick jump will probably help, otherwise put some leads on the car and try to start it !! Once you've run it it will probably be ok as it's not totally flat so has held some charge. |

yes, exactly that |

It was flat, I had given it 1.5 hours on trckle. Is now back on charge. If that doesn't work, it looks like a new battery. The midget started first time after I put a gallon of juice in. Technolgy :-( |

Off to get a new battery. Cheers chaps. |
