MG MGF Technical - Steering

I have a new MG TF (just turned 1,000 miles)and whilst I am very pleased with it, its pulling to the left constantly. My main dealer from where it was purchased has looked at it and cannot find anything obviously wrong. They even admit that their demonstrator is doing the same thing. Does anyone else have this problem?

Lynda, sounds like 'TADTS'. Obviously a properly set up car should not do this.I presume when they'looked at it' they checked the alignment, tyre pressures and brakes are all in order.Take it back before something serious happens.

I had the same problem (amonst others). After several visits to the dealers, they decided to fit a new steering rack and touch wood, problem solved.

In DE a dealer would have 2 tries only to get the failure sorted due to revised new legal rights here from 2002.

Don't think there is much difference in trading rights to the UK, cause we almost copy only to get equal to other countries. ;)

I would check about your rights and reject the car ASAP.
Assuming you wanted a car and not a toy for workshop visits.

Thanks for your comments.

John, How old is your MG, i'd be interested to hear more about the symptoms of your car pulling. I contiously have to keep my hands on the steering wheel and if I let go it immediately pulls to the left, is this the same as you had? I'd like to go back to my dealer with your comments.
Lynda

Lynda,

The car had less than 50 miles on the clock when we first noticed the problem and like yours it constantly pulled to the left. The dealers couldn't identify the problem so they decided to replace the whole steering rack. This was only one of a number of problems, all of which have hopefully been solved. Mind you I wasn't too impressed with he dealers when I got home because when I checked the tyre pressures, each one was different, from 45 at the back to 35 at the front!

.....interesting. Thanks.

Likewise, I have a 3 yr old MGF which after much complaining has just had the steering rack replaced which cured the pulling to the left. If I let go of the wheel it immediately jumped left, more so on braking. My dealer was told by MGR to take the EPAS fuse out and drive it without and if it was OK like that then it was the steering rack - replaced 2 days before warranty expired!!

My Trophy 160 is doing this, and I find I have to constantly keep applying a bit of pressure to turn the wheel right, otherwise it drifts to the left. If I let go of the wheel, it quickly turns left, and even more so under braking. I've checked the tyre pressures, and it is OK, and it's not the road camber, as I've tried it on different cambers.
The car goes into the dealer tonight (for this and a few other things) so we'll see what happens!!
Cheers

Carolyn/Paul,

EXCELLENT....you don't know how great this feels to hear all this, it makes you feel that your not making it up and it gives me great ammunition to go back to my dealer with!!!! Your comments are EXACTLY what I have to do, apply just that little bit of pressure to keep it in a straight line.

Paul, let me know what happens with your car and what they say.
