MG MGF Technical - Steering Update
I have had trouble with the steering on my 2000 VVC F. The fault was that sometimes, when attempting to turn right, it was as if the steering wheel couldn't be turned. By moving it left slightly and then right, you could steer the car. Also there appeared to be slightly less power steering when turning right and you could hear a slight click when turning the wheel right, coming from area of the motor gearing. I asked at 3 dealers to see if they knew of the problem. 2 said yes (one said I needed a new steering motor, the other a new column. The 3rd said they hadn't heard of it I tried cleaning all of the wiring contacts and even took out and refitted the ECU but the fault persisted. I disconnected the ECU and drove the car for a couple of days. Since reconnecting the ECU the problem has disappeared. If you have this type of trouble it might be worth giving this a try before spending loads of cash. Any ideas to why driving the car without the ECU connected could cure it? |

>Any ideas to why driving the car without the ECU connected could cure it? Could still be coincidence with bad contacts in connectors. The only other idea I have is any long time lasting discharge of capacitors inside ? *system hanging*, Bill Gates inside ? Lots of parts which could fail ... http://www.mgfcar.de/epas/index.htm However, be happy and pray it will may cured for longer ;) Regards Dieter |
