MG MGF Technical - surprise
My garage exchanged my plastic throttle housing for an aluminium Trophy one today, and when I collected my car this afternoon I was surprised by the effect of this relatively simple operation. I accelarated like I normally do, but to my surprise the car almost jumped away. Either my throttle must have been in a bad way, or the slightly larger air valve (48-52mm) has a larger impact than I thought. Does anyone of you have the same experience? |

Yep, the larger diameter has a very nice effect :o) Many Elise drivers have made the swap for just that reason (someone did a before/after rolling road test and the difference was something like 6bhp IIRC) |

i have a 2001 mpi, with alloy throttle body but it's only 48 mm ... does the trophy one will have the same impact on my car ??? |

I've fitted both to my 99MPi, and I would guess around 12 HP. The car responds a lot faster. The TTB will make the K&N louder. regards, Alex |

Or to put in another way, is an MPI with exhaust, filter and throttle body as quick as a TF135 (+- a couple of HP). Probably, I reckon. However, the 135 does have those high lift cams.... Darren |

Simple answer - no, it's already been done! There aren't any real proven methods of improving HP on a 135 as the breathing's much improved over the F anyway, well not without getting the head off or doing silly things with multiple throttle bodies. However, I'd speculate that a good qualify cold air box (ITG etc) or an exhaust would improve bhp/torque marginally. As usual, speak to a specialist such as Mike if you're in need of more power! Kryn, to ask a real Dutch question: how much does it cost to have the throttle housing replaced by a trophy one. And -maybe this should have been my first question - what exactly is a "throttle housing" (what's the Dutch word)? Robbert. |
