MG MGF Technical - TF driving lamps - wiring info required.
OK, i'm planning on helping a mate fit some driving lamps to a TF, he has some ideas on how it can be done discretely. However, automotive electrics aren't top of my skills list and he is in a similar situation. Plus we will be looking to pick up the main beam feed close to the headlamp and it being a TF, there are possibly subtle differences in the loom at this point. Also, the last pair of lamps i wired in was in 1994 (IIRC) on my mum's Frontera and before that my only experience was on a Montego and a Mk3 Escort - i think you'll agree the TF is likely to be more than a little different. So, i know this is a rare modification to do on an F/TF, but i'm kinda hoping there are some electrical gurus out there (Will, Dieter) and possibly some other people who have experience of fitting lamps on other cars. > i think you'll agree the TF is likely to be more than a little different. not really. If you buy a kit it will include some low ampage wire, some high ampage wire (with an inline fuse) and a relay. Decide if you want light to be optional on with sidelights/on with headlight/on with full beam, make a connection (use the scotch lock crimp connectors) between that type of lights and the +ve side of the relay coil. Route the other side into the cockpit and attach to a switch to ground Install high ampage wire from battery to driving lamp relay keeping the fuse as close to the battery as possible. install high ampage wire from relay to lamps, install high ampage wire from lamps to ground. |

Andy, check out the wiring diagram for the fogs on the MGF, and wire the ones on the TF in the same way. You'll probably find that MGF 2000 is the same as the TF in any case... ;o) |

except that Fogs switch off if you put the lamps on full beam (dont thay?) |

Yes, and i want these to come on with the main beam and go off when dip is selected. Thanx for the info guys, i'll let you know how i get on. SF |

SF, If you don't care about the lamps always on with full beam, then do as suggested, but instead of running a wire to the cockpit, just connect it to ground. |

what driving lights are? |

Driving lights are additional lams to give extra light, usually fitted where foglights fit and only (legally) allowed to be active with the full beam (so they don't require the same adjustments as dipped lights). |
