MG MGF Technical - TF headlights fogging up
My 2003 TF's headlights are fogging up after a time when switched on. It was reported to the dealers, who said that they replaced the headlamps. The new ones are the same. Before I go back to them, has anyone else had this problem? Perhaps there is a bad batch of lights around that have moisture inside them. Is there anything that I can do to remove the moisture? It condenses in a two inch strip across the bottom of each headlight. TIA, Neil |

Fairly common I believe. I was told MG say they'll only replace them if the mist doesn't clear after they've been on for xx minutes. Sorry I can't remember what xx is. |

Had the same problem on damp, cold mornings. Reported to dealer, who said it's a common problem, but no solution at the time (March 2003). Will go back if the problem re-appears. The dealer, Stour Valley Rover, has offered very good service in the past. It would be useful to quantify xx. |

My F used to do this, but the problem seems to have resolved itself. I don't think the units are completely sealed, so it must be natural condensation. Sam |

Get the same on my TF in wet conditions, also interestingly much worst on my wifey's Toyota Celica. Both cars clear in dryer weather. Steve. |

...same here on my TF160, but only on one side. Dealer changed it without any fuss, but it took some time to get the replacement (MGR had just changed suppliers??!!) AND they told me it would probably end up doing the same. But, touch wood, neither headlamp has fogged up since...altho' it's just starting to become the "right" weather conditions again!!!! |

My TF 160did the same. Got it @ the end of Feb, went back to dealer and they re- sealed the headlamp units with clear silicone sealant. I think (!) it worked, hard to tell 'cause of our fairly dry summer. BUT, as my problem occured so soon from delivery and hasn't returned, dare I say as I touch wood that the sealent might have fixed it?? I also had leaky door seals around the windscreen frame and 'fixed' that by feeding windscreen washer tubing into the hollow inside the seal, kind of 'beefs up' the rubber seal and has been fairly successful thus far. Ask me again after winter!!!! :~) |
