MG MGF Technical - TF Rear window heater switch
Its that time of year again and I am about to fit the hardtop from my old F to my TF(fits no problem by the way). Can anyone confirm exactly where the yellow relay should plug in and correct location of switch. When I bought the switch and relay this morning the chap (the only one in) said the positions as indicated on the parts computer could not be trusted!!! (great help). The parts computer diagram suggested the switch location is 2nd from the left on the centre consul and the relay goes on the board under the bonnet on the battery side. Any help greatly appreciated. The reason that the pictures in the EPC system can't be relied upon is that there is a single generic image that covers all MGF and mgtf parts and a comprehenisve text base information system that is displayed when that individual part is highlighted. Anyway it is simple. I assume you have the correct switch, YUG 102570PMP and the common relay YWB 10012. Open the fusebox access lid below the steering column. To the right of the fusebox you will see two relay units in place and below these a third empty plug. Align the relay connections with the plug (it has more slots than the relay so don't think it is wrong) and by steadying the plug, push in the relay. Now look at the switch panel and looking from the left there is the window lifter switch, then the first of the 5 smaller switches/blanks. You will see the second of these is a blank and this should be drawn out. If it is really tight and you feel that you may damage the panel, then go into the passenger footwell and remove the two cross headed screws that retain the plastic panel that supports the one footwell illumination light. Unclip both wires from the back of the lamp and put the panle to one side. This now allow you to look beghind the switch panel (with a light) and you can now push the blank from the back. The blank is moulded in such a way that it carries the wiring plug for the HRW clipped into the void on it's back, so removal of the blank also draws out the wiring. Pull the wiring plug from the back of the blank and insert it into the back of the switch. Push the switch back into the switch panel until it is flush with the others. Test the system, but note that the engine has to be running for the circuit to be active. If active and with engine running the internal warning lamp in the switch will light up when the switch is operated. If you test with a meter at the plug that connects to the top you will find power when the switch is on. Refit trim panels and top, and connect the top elctrical plug to the cars plugs and job done. Estimated time 15 - 20 minutes. Rog |

Brilliant! Thanks Rog. Guess I'll be tinkering this soggy afternoon!!?? I've got more info out of this BBS than any dealer so far. Me thinks MGR's EPC system should have a built in link, maybe their staff might learn a bit about their own products!! Meaoww... Kind regards Pete |

Rog, I'm now wet!! Got the relay in ok, but when I drew out the heater switch blank no wire/plug came with it so I took off passenger side panel as you suggested and still can't find plug. Would they tape it up somewhere daft?? Regards Pete |

OK sorted now!! Some helpful soul at MGR put the window heater plug into the one of the other blanks near drivers side. I think the reason the plug was put in the wrong blank was due to the loom for the switch being on the short side. The switch holes have notches so you have to insert into correct hole. I had a hell of a job trying to get it to reach over to the proper position Thanks again for the help, Pete. |

BTW on follow up to what Rog said. The MGF MK2 and in the same manner the MGTF are a special feature regarding the quantity of switches fitting in place. If fog lights get installed and there is no more space for that additional switch then you can get an enhencement to the restricted 5 position switch panel. The part number for this switch frame is VUB10230 and it gets to the right below the drivers side window lift switch. Only the MK2 switches will fit into this frame. HTH Dieter |

Confused me here Dieter?? I don't recall seeing any switch options for post 2000MY cars, only for the air con Mk1 cars. I can't find any reference to that part number,. If it is missing a 0, to make VUB 100230, then this is the ice warning sensor kit. I can't see any alternative switch panels in current parts listings either. Can you elaborate? Rog |
