MG MGF Technical - Think its a wheel bearing?
Hi I replaced the air filter and plugs today so many thanks for all your help but now i got this noise and slight vibration which i think is coming from the back of the car. The noise is a sort or wuring sound which starts at about 35mph.Its not so bad when taking a left hand bend so whith this in mind do you think that the rear near side wheel bearing is on its way out? Your thoughts and experience would be much appreciated. If it is the bearing is there a web sight with pic's to perform this job? Cheers Tony |

Hi Tony, Dieter's site details a bearing change. http://www.mgfcar.de/wheel_bearing/ (you'll need to cut and paste this into your browser). If you lift the rear wheels onto axel stands you may be able to hear which side is affected by spinning the wheel - you may also find there's slight movement if you push/pull the wheel (do you find that your car is swaying in a straight line?) cheers, Mike |

Tony If you go round a constant radius bend (like a medium sized roundabout) and steadily increase speed, and therefore load on the outside wheels, does the growl/moan increase? If yes, almost certainly the wheel bearing. Try to check/fix asap as otherwise you will damage the flange and need to replace that as well. For info, 3 weeks ago my 2004 TF complete bearing £63 and drive flange £55 (incl vat) and I was charged 1.5 hours labour (non MGR dealer). |
