MG MGF Technical - Top Speed?
Can anyone tell me the stock performance of the MGF? 0-100km/h in ? sec Top speed ? km/h 100km/h - 0 in ? sec, ? meters. Thanks |

MPi 1996 slightly tweaked 130 on the dial! downhill on a well known road, no clues where ...eerrr the car went just like a .303 bullet ; ) |

Are these figures from MG or self test? Its seems my 98 1.8MPI running like over 10s for 0-100km/h. |

Those are manufacturer figures. I know lots of people who's exceeded the top speeds! Tim. |

Measured top speed on my'96 VVC was 77 mph and a gentle warning! |

Had the speedo showing 130mph on my 1.8 MPi (131Bhp RR Figure) but not sure how accurate the speedo is at that level! |

Speedo showed 133.5mph (actually it showed 215kmph) while another F (but VVC) passed us nicely. It ones showed 140mph going downhill, just before braking as another car pulled over to the same lane. (all hood up) |

also done 130mph in my 1.8i and think may be bit more there as chickened out as long straight was coming to an end ;-)) DAVE. |

All well and good going fast in a straight line..... but around the bends is where the F has it! There isn't much on the road that can stay with it....providing it's driven correctly.....although I must say those Golf TDi's are chuffin quick! |

Indicated 152mph-ish !! (Def above the 150 line) VVC. Downhill. Tailwind. Roof up. Way home after thrashing at track day. Empty road. Remarkably stable. Only mild tweeks. Bit silly though. Ooops. |

On german autobahn : 215 Km/h with hood up 205 Km/h with hood down And easily, but loud pedal at maximum in 5th maxime |

152mph I thought that MGF/TF only had a 150 on the clock. Has yours got 160 on the clock to be able to read 152mph. I smell a fib or am i just synicle |

No fibs. Read just above 150 on the clock. I don't need a 160 mark to guess that it was 152. :-) Wasn't studying it at that speed anyway!!! :-) RPM was just over 7000 from memory. 15" rims. Good standard tyres. Standard 'box. Car is lower and with splitter. Never had huge problems at high speed. Note my comments: "Indicated", "Downhill", "Tailwind". I make no claims that it *was* 152mph. :-) Just that it was *indicated* 152mph. Not to be recommended. Purely an academic exercise. Things happen *WAY* too fast at that speed. |

7000rpm on a VVC is 145mph. I guess it's possible to hit 152mph ... with a tailwind and big hill. P. |

A Bit off topic but at all you people who have exceeded 125 mph how did / does your car handle at those speeds. After reading this thread I am starting to have serious concerns about the handling of my car. If i exceed 110 i don't feel at all in control, it all gets a bit wobbly and prone to wind. Nik PS I don't think its me as I have driven quite a few cars at high speeds and never had this before. |

car mgtf 160 where a3 to m20 junction along the M25 when 0300 - Sept 2003 ave speed over the distance 142mph max 161mph ( down the bank to the M23 ) speed confirmed by garmin gps steering was very light but stable, dont fancy doing it again |

Mine is an MPI with a suspension a little bit lowered... Car very stable and confortable... Wheel light but precise... feel confident while being follow by porshe or audi on those german autobahn at 215Km/h maxime |

Car felt fine at an indicated 130mph. More stable than usual actually. I was on a perfectly staight, flat motorway and there were very high bankings on either side which protected me from any sidewinds. Felt tremendous! (but not condoning speeding) |

Higher cars are floatier. Get it lowered to the correct hight or lower it further with knuckles. :-) Badly tracked cars will not be as stable. Check your tracking. If it's still not good, fit some form of splitter. I recognise that some cars are not stable at high speed. Mine was not good to start with. However, the good news is that your cars need not be dangerous at high speed. :-) P. |

Oddly, Scarlet has never had a problem with high speed instability, even before she was lowered. I put this down to her being non-EPAS, but cannot confirm this. She has been lowered now since 1997ish and the only reason i fitted a splitter during the rebuild was for appearance - there was no notcable difference to the stability at all following the fitment which would suggest that there never was an issue with my F. Some people have reported a marked improvement though, i'm happy with my Trophy Splitter, but as i said, it was bought for aesthetic reasons. I may invest in a KH one as well and see if this makes a difference - looks a lot better when partially hidden by a Trophy one IMO. SF |

I always wondered what the big black rubber strip under the front of the F is for. Is it some kind of aerodynamic device or is it to warn you when the car is going to bottom out on something. Had fancied removing it to save some weight but didnt know if it would affect the aerodynamics. |

EPAS is supposed to switch off at high speed (above 30mph IIRC), this is why i can't confirm my theory. However, pulling the EPAS fuse does appear to make a difference. I'm not sure, but i always though the black rubber downstand under the front subframe was for aerodynamic reasons too. SF |

Is this not due to you having to work against the unpowered motor when the fuse is pulled. Where as when the motor is powered but not "active" it offers little to no resistance? |

Strangely (or perhaps not) if you switch off the EPAS then you get a lot more road feel even at high speeds, i.e. the wheel jumps and jerks as you go over bad road surfaces I assume that this is less to do with the EPAS deliberatly covering up the noise, and more to do with the inertia of the motor/cluch doing the damping for you. |

Quite the opposite paul, when there is no fuse in the system the EPAS compleatly disengauges and offers no resistance. |

My 130+ escapade was done on a well known dual carriageway that goes from the A3 to devon... there is a long downhill bit past stonehenge. I was in "convoy" with a Saab 900 turbo. 130 felt pretty scary to be frank. the steering had lightened up significantly and felt vague/loose. I dont have EPAS but the car feels absolutley fine up to 115 It's probably just airflow underthe car so all you guys thinking about getting splitter/or better that Trophy bumper extension DO IT! |

Standard VVC / Hardtop / lowered / Stainless and K&N...150MPH on the M74 just as you approach Glasgow slight downhill... What a noise at near limiter at 7K Revs in 5th... Saw trap... slowed right down - 3mins later cops went flying by... I don't think they believed it was us that went through their GATSO...;) Had 140MPH hood down on way to south of France overtaken by a boat being towed by a Audi S6! |
