MG MGF Technical - Trophy Exhaust
Hi, Anybody know whether this is a pre/post 2001 backbox by the partcode? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2443862480&category=10414 |

2 types of Trophy exhaust, one pre-MY2K and one post-MY2K. Pre-MY2K system will not fit on post MY2K cars. Post-MY2K system will fit on a post-MY2K car (F/TF) and on a pre-MY2K F with the addition of an adapter pipe (like the one Mike Satur sells). This is because the catalyst changed shape to incorporate an additional sensor on the post-MY2K cars and therefore the connection pipe to the catalyst on the silencer was altered to accomodate. Really need a picture to tell the difference easily, not sure if the part number alone is sufficient (although you may be lucky, there are some pretty knowledgable people on this forum). SF |

No picture, which is frustrating, because it is easy to tell whether it will fit your car Graham for exactly the reasons that SF states above... Still, there is a part number, so if anyone happens to have access to the EPC, they could check this for you: WCE103780 |

Just looked that up on the EPC and there's no mention of date. :o/ All it says is: WCE103780 Rear assembly exhaust system - Trophy £203.90 Attributes and Change-Points Attributes From Year/Prefix From SN To Year/Prefix To SN Type - Except: Japan AD 12535 YD 522572 VIN Maybe someone more clever than me can work out what type it is from the Japanese VIN number applications?? As an aside, there are 7 different part numbers for the Trophy rear exhaust box... Tim |

Odd - as I assume the vendor has a back box to sell. I'm a little confused: what is the difference between a back box and a "Rear assembly exhaust system" Tim? |
Rob Bell |
No difference, Rob, just EPC terminology! The picture shows a Trophy back box (referred to as "Rear assembly exhaust system") and there are 7 different part numbers for that item, each slightly different. Even the prices vary by up to £100. A couple are even for aircon cars which is a bit odd - I can't see how having aircon will affect which exhaust you have! Tim |

Thanks Tim. Sometimes that EPC can cause you real headaches...! Argh! The only difference I can think that there would be between an airconditioned car and a standard one would be an additional heat shield on the exhaust manifold: but this would have absolutely nothing to do with the back box. |

Don't believe everything written black on white, special if it's from our manufacturer. ;) EPC is made from ..[self censored] !! I always wonder how any dealer is able to ordering the right part ;) >>- Except: Japan AD 12535 YD 522572 VIN Reading through all above and adding some earlier know how, I think the exhaust at ebay could be one of the 'temporary' delivered parts for the very early Trophy. Anyway, just ask the seller whether the entry pipe from the catalyst runs parallel to the silencer box (MK1) , or whether it is a short pipe only RH of the silencer. (MK2) This is MK2 shown with catalyst. http://www.mgfcar.de/mods/MJ2001.jpg I remember Rob has better pix on his site. Would be of interest in any way due to the found P/N. Cheers Dieter |

Don't know about Rob's piccies, but here's what I've found: http://www.mgtf.be/DE_exhaust.html |

Same sort of thing Eric - the image on my site is an 'over lay': http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/exhaust_pix/exhaust_20002001_overlay.jpg - found on http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/exhaust_differences.htm LOL - this is turning out to be something of a 'you show me yours and I'll show you mine'! ;o) Good pic you got there of the additional Lambda Dieter. |

Thanks all, it does have the full 90 degree bend and should be with me tomorrow!!! Lets just hope fitting the thing goes to plan over the weekend!!! |

> 'you show me yours and I'll show you mine'! ;o) LOL, the same source, though :) btw, try search term _MGTF exhaust_ with the *magic search engine* and see what it gets :))) http://www.mgcc.de/mgf :))) @ Graham, congrats and good luck with it. |
