MG MGF Technical - Trophy style headlights

I would like to do the Trophy style headlight mod to my F but I was wondering if this reduces the headlight brightness? I assume it must to some extent as the large reflective surface is lost but is it noticeable?

On another note, is there any way of keeping the small sun visors up? With the hood down they just blow down and even if left against the screen they blow back? any mods anyone knows of?

1 ) Trophy style headlight mod does impact on light output of the headlamps, but the effect is very small indeed, mainly around the very fringes of the light beam. This is because the headlight bulbs sit in thier own refelective bowl and this is what produces 99% of the light pattern. The part that is black is meerly a housing for the light bowls and as such is only silvered to give the impression that each lamp unit is one large single item.

2 ) Sunvisors should not blow down when the hood is lowered, i seem to recall there being a spring inside the mounting bracket, maybe this has gone in your F? Odd that they would both go at the same time though.

Thanks for the quick reply Scarlet, nice to see your car in the new Mag! The left visor is worse than the right one but I have noticed a small shard of wood in the left sun visor bracket!!! are they easy to remove do you know?

Removing the sun visors is a doddle - they're just held in place by two phillips grub screws.

If the visors are just flopping down, then they're junk I'm afraid - unless someone has a cunning way of repairing them? Best solution is replacement, but most 'dodgy dealers' just bodge them with some masking tape...

You could always use velcro tape to secure the visors when not in use...

It was bleedin' cold during the photo shoot - check out the sky in the photo of me :-) I think this is why there were no interior shots in the mag, there probably wasn't enough light for them.

Sun visors are simply screwed to the windscreen surround with a pair of Philips head screws (each). If you are replacing them you might want to consider TF ones, not that they are any better you understand but they are black as opposed to off white, as is the entire TF windscreen apperture. I have seen an F with a TF apperture and it looks well smart (no more grubby fingerprints on the offwhite plastic :-) ). Just an idea...

What was the best way you painted your headlamp parts? I take it, they are just plastic, so plastic primer from Halfords, then the colour of your choice?

Also, do you know whether you can buy the bit I'm gonna paint seperately just in case it all goes horribly wrong and I wanted to go back to how it was?

Thanks in advance
